Reminds me of the return of Tony Hateley all those years ago.

Me too. That was an amazing day. Saturday 7th November 1970. Northampton were top of Div 4 and Notts were second. 21000 turned up to see the return of big Tone. Notts won 1-0 with a Jon Nixon volley in the second half.

The old Meadow Lane stand was rocking that day.

I was there as well as a 15 year old, Gawd that's made me feel old.........

No-one, and I mean no-one, could head a ball like Big Tone.

I was much younger than you (I was 14), so yes you are old. I remember his hat-trick against Colchester.

A rare Friday night home game, the last of '62-63 season,a 6-0 thumping. This was the year of the severe winter, where we played twice between Boxing Day and March. As a result five games were crammed into 16 days in May.
I had initially suspected the Cup Final might have caused the switch but that was the next Saturday - but we did have to travel to Hull on the following Monday to fulfil our fixtures.

He only bagged a brace in that game. I was referring to the 4-0 victory over Colchester in April 1971. I seem to remember all three goals were from headers (though I may be wrong).

I was 20 (eleven years into my NCFC life sentence!) and was lucky enough to be back in Nottm on leave. Behind the goal at the Lane End, what a thrill it was (had lots of thrills in them days!!)

I'm getting on a bit my memory not all that... Was that the game he was substituted, he wasn't a happy chappie...He took his shirt off and threw it into the dug-out and stormed off down the tunnel..

That was a later " night match", it took a little time to get into his stride, but then it all took off.
