The song is 'County is the Team for Me' by Jimmy Willan, I believe. A classic!! You can hear it here...County's the Team for Me • Jimmy Willan, Peter Quilty (spotify.com)
That brings back memories, back in the late 70’s/early 80’s Radio Trent ran a competition for a Notts County Song, it ran every night for a week with people phoning in to cast votes. The final two songs were Jimmy’s ‘County’s the Team for me’ and my song aptly called ‘Super Notts’ (it started with the chant but then went into an original song’ - Jimmys won but it was great fun at the time. Wonder if anyone on here remembers the song contest.

We were away from Nottingham by then so didn't get Trent, but I do remember on the day of THAT Luton match in 2003, Jimmy Willan raising money for Notts by asking people to sponsor him to not sing! It was hilarious and raised a fair amount.

Good story. Bit sad that you remember the title but you had a good reason to.
Do you have a link to your song BP?

And do tell us that you played the banjo please!

It is really sad that I don’t even have a copy of the recording - it was recorded by a house-full of county fans in a friends front room but the recording quality was actually not bad and certainly good enough for the radio broadcast. I did’nt play the banjo but I played the guitar and strangly, my mate played the bass guitar and his nickname was Banjo. All very odd. I remember the first few lines ie:

“Super Notts Super Notts” - (chant)
‘they started way back in 1862 and with their colours were nicknamed the Magpies
With a will to succeed soon were top of the league and showing everybody the way
The skill and class is there for all to see and for those who are still non-believer's
Just come down to the lane and your sure to remain a Magpie supporter believe us

Oh Notts County we’ll always be behind you we’ll be right behind you all the way
OH Oh Notts County, we’ll be there to see you Saturday
    Long rule Notts County,
the best football we’ve seen for many years
When the second goal the’ve got, we’re all chanting ‘Super Notts’
Filling meadow lane with lots of cheers

La da da da da da da - la da da da da da da - la da da da da da da da da

    ‘Super Notts Super Notts (chant)

There was another verse but I can’t remember it.

Love that, it's a shame there's no recording. And you need to change your user name to Guitar Pie!
