    I was recently reading of a YouGov poll from early 2023. The survey was around what Brits thought the living standards should be of people living on benefits, minimum wage and average earnings.

    24% believed that these groups should not be able to pay their electricity, gas or water bills;

    26% thought that there was no need for them to be able to afford food that allowed them and their families to eat a healthy and balanced diet;

    43% believed that a home internet connection was not warranted for those relying on the state.

    Do these views represent you?

    In April Sunk warned against "over-medicalising the everyday worries and challenges of life" and threatened to withdraw some benefit payments altogether. According to Sunk illness is, apparently, a "lifestyle choice" Does this attempt to appeal to the baser instincts of the 'populist' demography qualify him as a "disrupter"?

    Farage and other extremists cynically ply the myths and tropes which appeal to the populists and which are given widespread coverage in the right-wing print and social media.

    There is much that is wrong with this country. Hopefully a start might be made on putting right some of these failings after the election. But I am not optimistic; the result will be a temporary setback for the establishment, not a long-term radical solution.
    That post reads like an angry person, why are you angry at me I never said that the views you posted are mine, so calm down. To be clear I do not hold those views.

    Firstly polls are easily rigged to get the outcome that those running a poll want to get, you know this so take those percentages with a pinch of salt. Secondly not all extremists sit on the right and having a political spectrum that only looks horizontal between left and right is very limiting you need to add the vertical scale, often referenced as the social scale but there are variants of that scale. It helps me to not think of these issues solely as right and left, and throwing labels around of right-wing press doesn't always help the discussion. As i am sure you know that most of western media is owned by a small group of people and they drive those organisation to achieve their goals.

    what do you mean by the term conspiracy theorists, it is a term that is brandished about so I am interested by what you mean by it and why do you class yourself as not being one?

    No, not angry at all. Just asking the question.

    Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail, Daily Express, Sun, Times, represent the right-wing print media. Perhaps you disagree? Their owners are accountable to no one.

    Good question. For me personally, it is where a substantial number of people believe and regurgitate theories that in themselves are not backed up with substantial expert/learned research and data from that particular field of expertise, and there is a tendency to quickly, and without proper scrutiny accept these theories whilst ignoring (or dismissing due to tenuous links from the 'expert' to big pharma/big corps etc) more substantive, thorough and in the case of science, peer reviewed data and findings.

    Yep, I've been guilty of this in the past, and to an extent we all do it, although I'm better at self criticising, cross checking and rethinking my viewpoints now, and think it's healthy to keep challenging you own point of view.

    A fully paid up left winger will scream "B0LLOCKS" to the idea of the BBC being left wing biased, especially in the news and politics departments.

    As a fully paid up member of a once left wing party, I wouldn't scream anything but there's definitely no widespread left wing bias in the BBC. There is a definite grouping of social policy and economic policy by many to to conveniently tie libertarian views and left wing economics together so as to suggest a left leaning bias because the BBC undoubtedly veers more towards libertarianism than authoritarianism... but it's not true to suggest that any person or political party is anchored equally to both social and economic policy as if they're bound together.

    I'm sure they must have some left leanings though, because any organisation that can get Piers Morgan and Nigel Farage inexplicably thrown onto a political debate show during a general election, must have a communist agenda.
