So we've suddenly got a bunch of mind readers able to do remote readings as to what other posters are privately thinking, that the doubters would take the club failing over a promotion just for the sake of bragging rights on a message board. Give me a ducking break.
After nearly 30 years of pessimists being proved right at almost every single turn when it comes to all things Notts, it's hardly going to make any difference to anybody's sense of sound judgement and self esteem if this one turns out to be yet another dud, is it.
If anybody truly had confidence in Stuart Maynard, they wouldn't be getting all uptight with posters doubting his ability.
How many people on here said "Who?" when Luke Williams was appointed? His record at Swindon leading to relegation wasn't very good and I bet most people thought here we go again. Didn't turn out too bad in the end even if he did start to struggle towards the end. Maynard inherited a team on the slippery slope to mid table due to a dreadful comedy defence. Had LW stayed we wouldn't have made the play offs.
It looks like we're sorting the defense/goalkeeper problems and brought it some good players. I'm looking forward to see what "The Management Team" can do.
Is there anybody here willing to say that they would have been shocked had the owners parted company with Maynard at the end of the season and would have logged onto MAD to question the owners sanity?
Let's say you were all put in a position where you had to give Maynard a new revised contract and he would accept it, regardless. You can pick any length of time, but it has to be at least 3 months (to the last week of September).
Is there anybody here willing to do an Alan Hardy and say they would extend Maynard's contract to 6 years if they could. How much confidence do people really have in Maynard? I'd be interested to know. How long would you be prepared to commit to him?
I wouldn't go beyond this September, I'd want to see his early season results before changing my mind.
I would imagine the owners came very close to pressing the ejector seat button after last seasons run of defeats. The end of September will be a defining point in his career at Notts.. One way or another....
Alan Hardy is, thank goodness, irrelevant. He made big claims and came up short. He said he’d like to have Kewell for 6 years and sacked him after a few weeks. The Reedtz brothers like to back their own judgement and give a decent length of time to people to show what they can do. In sport there are few guarantees, but Maynard is being given an opportunity to grow into the job. It’s not a few mistakes that will define his time at Notts, it’s his ability to get players motivated and working for each other, and his ability to get them playing in effective patterns. It’s no surprise that he found it tough to come here and fill LW’s shoes. Going full time and coaching at a higher level in a far larger club meant that he had an awful lot to learn on top of the usual things like remembering a lot of new names, finding his way around and dealing with a much higher profile. He seems more settled, more confident. A few good results at the start of the season could work wonders for him and the team. If that doesn’t happen, life will remain tough for him and he will be horribly vulnerable to criticism, and the chances of him coming good will diminish rapidly, but they won’t disappear until he resigns or is replaced.
No-one here (well almost no-one) is idiotic enough to do an Alan Hardy.
September is too soon unless the results are really disastrous. What if we are only averaging 1.5 pts/game and showing improvement as the new fellows find their feet? Not good enough for you? We had a skewed start last season and generally (first game apart) didn't hit the better performers until after September if I recall correctly.
