Trent is pointless in there… if you’re playing a defender in the midfield he should be protecting the back line, he can’t tackle… so playing him centrally exposes him, and the defenders around him.

If it’s for his passing, he’s a better crosser, so you’re then playing Saka, Trent, Walker and bloody Foden down the right

And, the biggest problem is Southgate… he doesn’t make the changes when they should be made.

Gordon on the left would give the balance.

No point in putting Foden and Bellingham on the pitch together.

Yes, they’re both great players, but if you’re planning on progressing in the tournament, then play them separately and look after them. It’s a small squad with games every three days.

But Southgate, has no urgency in the team, he doesn’t put any expectation on them.

In one hand saying, they’re young and inexperienced and are learning etc, basically giving them excuses… when he could have been playing these guys together instead of Henderson, Rashford and Maguire for the last 2 years.

And saying that winning the competition is all about mentality, and that’s what makes the difference…

He’s talking them down and giving excuses before a game is played…

He should be telling that group of players that this is their chance.

He should be out there in the media saying we’re going for this. We’ve got some of the best players in the world and they will thrive on the biggest stage…

But instead he’s telling us this is a learning curve and they need to gel.

He’s not showing that he has belief in the squad, he’s not showing any desire to win the tournament… just to not do bad in it.

Those guys should be out there trying to win games, not trying to not lose them.
Exactly, saved me typing it all out mate.

The guy's a chinless clown, utterly clueless, no tactical awareness.

If you want a snap shot of Southgate’s time at England then watch them play just after equalizing.
Frightened to lose. You never win tournaments with that mentality.
Time for a manager with some tactical nous (but not EH obviously). I’d go for Potter.

Exactly what I was saying. They sat deeper and deeper after equalizing.

Potter would be my shout, too.

I hope they go for him too. First, I think he'd do much better than Southgate, and secondly, I'd hate them to be considering E.H.

    Agree, with Potter.

The Gareth Clueless will get a new contract and another chance to fail in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Takes one (injured) true LB to a major tournament.

Enters a major tournament with at least 4 players out of position in the starting line up.

Declares he’s doing an ‘experiment’ in the starting line up in a major tournament

Plays only for draws/not to lose in the group stage.

Brings the same subs on for every game (claimed as a masterstroke by some in the semi final).

Fails to try ANY alternative attacking options in the final group game in a team clearly misfiring, before which England had already qualified.

Managed to stifle the talent of a golden generation by negative and inept tactics.

Gives the U21 Euros player of the tournament (and therefore voted the best in Europe (yes, Yamal and Williams)!!!) less than 5 minutes on the pitch.

    Have I missed any?

Fails to use Gordon who was given a couple of minutes plus injury time and in that period had the commentators on the edge of their seats declaring "he's come on and in a few seconds provides the two best passes of the game after making acres of space"

They and other notable names were saying that Gordon must be used more.

Seeing the lads on the pitch at the end… and Gordon was stood off on his own - he had a 5 minute cameo and for me proved he was willing to give 100% to win!!!

And that was clearly his downfall, he ignored GS and tried to win rather than to not lose !!

I can honestly see Gordon saying he won’t play for England while Southgate remains! And I couldn’t blame him!

Even foreign journalists were saying it in the group stages.

No pressing at the top end of the pitch. Ranked 15th in this in the tournament.

Reactive and not proactive. When equalised the initiative should have been taken to go on the front foot but no, it was back to the low block inviting pressure with no legs to counter ie bring Gordon on.
