Southgate, and he picked Kane in spite of his (Kane's) persistant falling back to "help out" in midfield in the previous three games. If Kane had stuck to his role as the target man in the opposition's half we might not have had so many Spaniards in ours. No doubt. Southgate's faith in Kane to be the centre forward we know he can be was let down by - Kane.

Sorry Davy it was the third goal. Peter's scored the second to put us in front before Webber equalised in the 89th minute to make it 2-2. Hurst hit the bar and the ball bounced on the line for the 3rd in extra time.
I agree with you though we were lucky to be given that goal.

Its the toxity of some Engalnds fans and press - for me it makes no difference who the new Engalnds manager is, it will be the same old rip them to shreds- when will they ever learn and actually get behind their team
I think Germany got their own back on the Karma bit when Lampards goal was disallowed when it was shown to be a foot over the line. That was right on half time and we would have gone in level at 2-2 after being 2 nil down.

At least your not like all the others who have come out today and said how great Gareth is, trouble is it was a month to late, they should have been saying these things at the start of the tournament.
England managers just cant win no matter what they do, Southgate stuck to a system that was very competitive and got us to the later and last stages of a knockout competitions, , in the finals maybe with a bit of luck woould have won it, as England did in 66 .
Its all very well people saying make subs earlier attack more, funny enough that was our undoing against spain, after equalising we tried to attack, leaving large spaces for spain to exploit as in the player that was allowed to run 60 yards unmarked

    What a sad bigoted comment.
No one is complaining, merely stating an opinion that is different from your own point of view.
At least get your facts correct and relevant to the post. Don't make assumptions and research historic events before posting about events 58 years ago.
I certainly did do other things rather than watch Southgateball. The World Pool Championships were much more entertaining, as the Little Snoring Tiddlywinks tournament would have been.
You state that England would have won the final if they had any luck. If the manager had gone for the win they may well have done so rather than reverting to type after equalising.
As for luck , England were very lucky throughout the finals or they wouldn't even have made the final.
Lucky group stages with no top opponents , a Bellingham strike that most times wouldn't have scored a goal, a very fortunate non penalty v The Netherlands, a delayed one game ban for Bellingham (unlike the 2 goal Turkish goalscorer ) and apparently fortunate late goals to boot in added time.
Other than Eddie Lowe and Nolan I've never wanted ant manager sacked but footballers and managers are only employees and if not upto the job should be replaced by someone more capable.
Finally , grow up, and don't make bigoted assumptions on who should support Notts or question their allegiance towards the club.

I went to the paint drying tournament. The speed was something else. Was surprised how quick it was.
Did you not want Murphy sacked? I remember near the end of his tenure walking out ML due to his clueless tactics & I think attendances were hovering just over 4k on a Saturday

Don't you think Kane might have been playing to orders in keep dropping back. The thing that bugs me is Southgate saying Kanes recent back problem might have affected his performance? If that was the case why did he keep picking him?

After he picked him 7 times in a row and he was....awful in every game.

Yes that's Kanes fault that Southgate kept picking him!

Who knows why Kane kept his place? Toney and Watkins could have slotted in easily and their pace would have kept Spain's midfield occupied.

If Kane's back problem affected his ability to play an attacking role he could have rested himself after the first game where it was obvious he was slower than usual. The England performance certainly improved after he came off.

7 Times in a row is irrelevant when his later four times in a row was under par. It should not have gone three.

    Eh?

Southgate picks the team so he knew if there was any issue with Kane. It's clear there was. If Maynard consistently picked Jatta and he had a back injury and he played **** in each game would that be Maynards fault or Jattas? The poor management is further comprehended by the fact that in a number of the instances he was replaced we instantly played better!
