What I will say is he’s come out a different animal this season.

    Promising.
It's a similar timeframe to that which 99% of this board thought was enough to sack him. If the bump is premature so was the original thread.

Hands up - I, like many others was wrong about Maynard and the Brothers. Maynard in. He's doing a good job so far this season. It's also looking like a great business move with Langstaff to Milwall, as we don't seem to be missing him.

In retrospect I should've said this with the bump message, so apologies for leaving it out:

I used the mystical search function of this board to dig this thread up, because Elite mentioned it in another thread and I'd forgotten what I'd actually said. I figured others would be in the same boat, so I bumped it.

I reckon at the time we made this thread, anyone could be forgiven for assuming SM was on his way out the door. Any previous ownership this club has had, and that string of results would have meant nothing less. Same goes for almost any owners of almost any club.

But IMO it's a testament to the success of "The Radar" model that so many of us now feel we were wrong about SM and that the owners were right all along.

Of course, everything could go pear shaped again, and we aren't even 10 games in. I just found it interesting rereading everyone's views on it and seeing the change to today.

It’s still very early days, but everything I've seen so far suggests to me that we’ve got a very good squad (not just team) and that SM identified the problems from last season and, along with Rich Montague, has fixed them. Keeping our top players fit is important, of course, but right now I see no reason why we can’t finish in the top three. Saturday will tell us more, with our biggest test to date.

I think it’s quite good craic to revive the Maynard Out Thread.

After Crewe I was adamant Maynard had to go. Everything felt so bleak. I was absolutely raging with everything. Looking back at his results, there was some pick up in the last 10 games but I still remember feeling underwhelmed by everything. Maybe that was contextual, given the previous season and Williams going and it all not feeling as amazing as it had done.

I think if The Reedtz had pulled the trigger at some point last season, or in the summer, they probably could have been justified in doing so. Just as they have been justified in keeping him as it stands now.

Football Fans are generally ruled by their emotions when it comes to their own team and the Maynard Out Thread is probably a clear expression of that. There was some evidence that he could’ve gone, granted it was a small sample size, but there was evidence nonetheless.

‘It’s a game of onions’ and some opinions are good (in some peoples opinion) and some are absolutely **** (in some peoples opinion). But that’s half the fun. It’s a message board. Let’s enjoy it.

Having said all of the above, I’m really excited to see some of the terrible gatekeeping that will stem from revived thread.

Some absolute pearlers on this thread… some of which CAN be dismissed. Apparently if SM was in charge in the summer, season tickets sales would take a battering. If SM continued then squad morale would be at an all time low as none of the players respect SM.
IMO SM has got to a point where more and more fans are buying in to him and the fact he is more than capable. If a player started off slowly and then hit some form we’d be saying that he’s a quality player… SM has shown he is can man manage. Players like Didzy look really happy. Would JJ have signed a contract if he felt SM was weak or piss poor? The reality is, only one player at Notts has shown any sort of dissatisfaction and SM sent him off to Scotland sharpish.

Agree with this. Frankly I still think our squad last year was far better than the performances we were putting in, but it was obviously unbalanced and SM didn't seem to know how to play to our strengths. We have a much better balanced squad now and SM is thriving. I still don't think he was what we needed last season, and to that degree I think the brothers did write off last season to focus on this. And that may have been smart but it really tested my patience.

I thought long and hard about the streaming season pass and player sponsorship this year. Decided the former just made sense, and for the latter heart beat head. Watching Notts in these first games has been a heck of a lot more fun than end of last season, even with the earlier draws.

At least I was a reluctant out rather than screaming for his head, part of me was saying he needs more time but it must be said that his early days didn't inspire any confidence. Unfortunately there are still some posters who are so convinced that their opinion must be right that they seem to almost want him to fail so they can give it the " I told you so " rather than admit they could have been wrong & get behind the man. SM came in to a squad that was decent but clearly not his players.
Although on the face of it he plays a similar way to that of LW. The reality is he has implemented subtle changes. The back 3 was always going to change, however, the clubs recruitment of a more mobile midfield and players that can actually play wing back is telling. JJ playing on the right is something he has done consistently.

Absolutely no point in sacking him at this point.

He might turn it around. And I’m not sure any caretaker is going to be any better.

That said. If there is a much better option available. It’s the bullet.
I was very much on the fence.

I’m happy for SM but it’s still far too early to call.

I’ve been saying before every game this season, “let’s see when we play xxxx this week” and thus far, my expectations have been exceeded.

I even thought at 2nil down we’d get something at Bromley. Now that is bonkers.
