Players' performances vary, and sometimes they are playing to orders. On a good day, Crowley is superb, and makes things happen for teammates; how you could describe him as "not a team player" when he is opening up defences and laying the ball on a plate for someone else to score is beyond me. On other occasions, he doesn't always spot the pass, or other players don't go on the right runs, and Crowley pirouettes looking for an opportunity.

A few times in recent matches, he has played deep. Sometimes it has looked very much that he has been instructed to do so, to play a defensive midfield role. Given that most of his experience is as an attacking midfielder, he's done pretty well when asked to fill in for Palmer/Abbott/Robertson. If he has played deep when he should have been attacking, I'm sure Maynard will have made his expectations clear. What is absolutely clear to me is that Crowley has usually been better than average for us, and often much better than average - team player or not.
