Barnsley Post Match Thoughts

There was nothing in the game for us that suggested better days are ahead even if the 3 points were welcome .

I sort of got to thinking yesterday afternoon about how this game was once was and how it is now .

I take the point that a 12.30 PM KO does little to help but this was a damp squib of a local derby unimaginable at one time .

Where was the excitement ? , neither team had one single player who could get you off your seat , sterile , unimaginative bag of shyte .

Oh for the days of Towner , Barraclough , Ronnie Moore , Glav , Banks , the steel of McCarthy , Stancliffe , Gow and the craft of Fern and Derrick Parker .

There wasn't one single player out there yesterday who'd have got within a hundred miles of playing in either of our teams back in the early 80's .

Those days may possibly be over for good but I feel we should be way way better than the borefest witnessed yesterday in a season all ready over contest played at daft o'clock .

Nostalgia may well play tricks on you when you get to my age but given yesterday's insipid fayre on offer .

Thank Christ I'm 63 years of age , you couldn't buy that early 80's period off me .

No time for Barnsley fans bricked my car at Oakwell took over the Millmoor Inn could have been when Glavin was playing for them. My best memory was at their place Crawford his equaliser was a great feeling our fans filled part of the stand we were given.

Absolutely.
Both clubs had some terrific teams in the early 80s and there was always a brilliant atmosphere at the games.
Didn't our striker also wear a particular type of hat? 🙂

Sorry Ronners but I thought Nombe was looking for a penalty and went down far too easily.
At the end of the day we got exactly what we deserved thanks to a clueless manager who started with a ridiculous line-up and a bunch of players who, apart from 3 or 4, just don't look too bothered.
We can't keep blaming referees for the ineptitude at the club.

I was sat down near the away end mellow and their player had hold of Nombe's shirt and hauled him down when he turned him, 100% a pen. Their pen was a pen 100% and on another day they could have had 2 more, I'm not blaming the ref for the defeat as the best team won in a game of very low quality from both teams, and I agree with the rest of your post. Wow animal, you've got me all nostalgic with all them names of players from both our clubs, when that was a great Derby game to go and watch. UTM

I just get a bit cynical because players go down at the slightest touch these days and that's what it looked like from where I was sitting.
We'd probably have missed the penalty anyway 🙂

It was an awful game between two very average sides.The winners were the ones that wanted it more and were carrying less dead weight.You look at what we've got left, after all the assets we had,have now been sold off and apart from Nombe and perhaps Powell, who both also may be sold off at the end of season,we have nothing of value.

Two poor teams on show yesterday, one not quite as poor as the other.
Not wanting players to have an excuse but the quality certainly affected by the weather, the wind was causing a few problems and the pitch is not good nowadays.
We took off midfielders and put on strikers in their place. Tactical genius!
