Evans came in last season before the season ended. Everything looked on the up. He acquired (on paper) some good players, very early. Everyone was buzzing. 10 games in and it was dire. The world was ending, some mm members were on suicide watch.
Don't rush with hamshaw. If he really wants to be a Rotherham manager he will say yes in may.
Loose the next 5 and the doubts of MM will kick in.
We will not attract anybody better than Hammy and Woggy, who seem to be very compatible. The club track record of always working on a tight budget deters any decent manager to come.So why has the Board not agreed a deal.Could it be that MH has identified a number of changes that need to be done,eg.training ground and youth development and AMBITION.Could it be that a take over could be on the horizon and the new owners will have the last say?
Can't see Stewart selling up in the centenary year; he will be looking for another moment in the spotlight. Hammy might be thinking of some of the conditions you mention, but given that this will be his first venture into management I doubt he will be too demanding.
Can't see us getting anything at Stockport given that they haven't played this week, but a defeat shouldn't make any difference to Hammy's claim on the job.
Build on the positive vibe and GIVE HIM THE JOB!
A club in Rotherham with an owner from Rotherham with a manager from Rotherham could end up with a Rotherham apprentice scoring the centenary goal sending us up.
Just an hopeful wish!
Hamshaw was here throughout Warne's tenure so he'll already have an inside track on how the club works. Maybe he'd like to see a few changes before he commits full time?
We've seen already that Hamshaw will adopt a hard working, bodies on the line style of play that echoes the Warne playbook. But what needs to change is the small squad. I've said it before so often that people are sick of hearing it, but you can't play like that over a full season with a small squad. But what we don't know for sure is, was the issue Warne not wanting to manage a bigger squad or Tony not wanting to spend? I have no idea! But two men who definitely will know are Hamshaw and Warrington. If the issue was Tony not wanting to spend, maybe Hamshaw is reluctant to sign on long term until he knows he won't have such tight constraints?
Also of interest in Hamshaws post match comments at Bolton was when he talked about the academy. he said it's very important and has produced success in the past. He's right, it has, but not in the numbers we would want. Hamshaw has experience working with youth, maybe he really wants to push the academy and investing in home grown talent.
He's an intelligent man who knows the club inside out. So he will know exactly what will need to change, within reason, to give him a chance of doing the job
No issue if (or when) Hamshaw gets the job. I'd probably want him over most alternatives we could line up in the summer.
I don't, however, have any issue with the process of getting him permanently in the role taking a little while. The club is a bit messy after the DoF introduction/reversal, carries a bits-and-pieces squad, uncertainty around budgets, uncertainty (outwardly at least) around whether we're pushing immediately for promotion or playing a longer game... and Matt needs to be aligned with the club on these things.
He as much as the club needs to know what he's signing up to. It's a great buzz around the place now, but a week or two more to figure out the foundations behind what may end up being anything from a decade-long relationship to a short-lived, disastrous soap opera, doesn't seem like a lot to ask. We've fallen well short with recent choices, let's make sure all involved are suited and properly aligned.
Announcement after the weekend. 👍
