I?ll admit I thought Edwards was going to be a good signing, and in my defence I felt he was coming into form before his injury when we?re employing a high press. He was great in the Grimsby home game. Since then his appearances have been limited and ineffective but maybe we are just not using him or the system correctly.

The midfield is a big problem. If Palmer is going to stay then I don?t think it can be in a two man midfield, I think he?d be better playing deeper behind two number eights, which we don?t have. Robertson was signed to be that muscle but I think he is a bit of a myth to be honest, he?s never really shone and has a bad tendency to give the ball away in dangerous positions.

Hinchy? Well, he?s shown signs of being decent but that?s it. He reminds me of Ed Francis. Not done much for us but could leave and excel elsewhere. Whitaker? Very raw, wouldn?t be disappointed to see him signed but wouldn?t lose any sleep if he left, I thought Josh Martin was a much better all round player.

I think we are at least three midfielders of varying styles, a RCB, a RWB, and a striker short of staying in league one next year when we get promoted.

You're right, but you are out of sync a bit with your seasons. We do need those positions filled so we can get promotion next season. If we had brought in two of those midfielders in January then we could have looked for the others to keep us in L1 next season

I think we need them this season.

I think between Macari, Ness and McDonald, we'll be sorted for RCB. I wouldn't want to throw wages on another squad player if it meant missing out on a better attacking midfielder or two decent central midfielders.

I do think we'll get some big cash for Jatta this summer so that should put us in good stead for RWB and a replaced midfield.

The question I think is that with a new DOF, I wonder if he'll ask us to adapt our formation, given we've tried for a few seasons with wing backs, and when our best ones aren't doing the business/are injured, we're so incredibly narrow and predictable. Personally, I'd like us to move to a 4-2-3-1 and get Jody more in the goalscoring positions, like he was with LW as the recent injuries are gonna slow him down. Same with the inverted winger on the other side.
