Jodi has now played more games for Notts than anyone else, so 'always' is now pretty much how Notts have used him, which was on the left, pre-Maynard, when he was racking up record assists. No one can deny that for Notts, he has been far more effective as a wing-back on the left.

Now if you are thinking of him a No 10, in an Amorim style 3-4-2-1, you might have a point. It might sound a bad comparison, but, in fact, United play exactly the same formation as Notts most of the time, and in that system, Jones would be your Amad, who is also left footed. But the trouble, is, they are near the bottom of the Prem, and lose every week. So I guess there is still a similarity.

Their main problems are a No 9 who can play that system, and their 2 man pivot at the base of the midfield. We also have a 30 year old who has seen better days and a Spurs player/vacancy in those positions, and that is our most urgent recruitment problem.

Valid points but for me WBs under SM are very deep, LW had them level with Langstaff at times . He can play both wings, 10, he just needs to be further up the pitch as does Jarvis who is never a wb in a million years.

We have switched to a 4 at the back a handful of times but with no real change in play.
We have been totally devoid of pace and physicality in the side so that rules out certain tactics.
No one in the 3 can hit diagonals let alone clipping that really hard pass over cbs but far enough away from the keeper. We have gone longer but Jatta can?t make the ball stick. People say pass it quicker but I?m pretty sure that?s worked on but the players aren?t good enough to do it consistently and that?s why I?m struggling with what Plan B would have looked liked and no one seems to suggest what it should have been.
Thanks for your comment Black Horse.
I also think those criticising SM should take note of Matt Magpies points. The modern day coach is given a set of players with certain skills, strengths and weaknesses. E.G.Fans can shout, "move the ball quicker". Yes, who can disagree, but if it was that easy the players would be doing it more often.
If we can take a positive from the depressing playoff results, it's was obvious where Notts needs to recruit. Two positions are the ones the club allowed players to leave.
In addition, Midfield is becoming a bit of a muddle. Lots of players, but the only player we really want on the team sheet is probably returning to his club.

A point I've continually made is that few players operating at this level, can play this type of football, effectively. They're simply, not technically good enough.

Yep, however Kevin DeBruyne is available and could probably do a job at this level. *

I've backed him 99% of the time but i think it might be time for a clean slate. Yes he has been unlucky with injuries but the crunch games towards the end of the season seemed to just fizzle out with no passion being displayed ( except from Jatta's tackle & Mcgoldrick running himself into the ground) . if he was kept on by the owners than i can live with that, i can accept they might want him to go again with an injury free squad. I would also understand if they wish to go with a new manager and a fresh start!? Its worth remembering though that we finished top six , not bottom six. There has to be some continued hope for next season and maybe a fresh face in charge might enhance that feeling ? That fresh face could be a new manager or a new assistant to the existing manager. In the Brothers we trust , they've done more than OK since they took over. Maybe they dithered about getting rid of Ardley but they got there in the end.
Like yourself I have backed SM most of the season & will continue to do so if he stays but providing we can find someone with experience maybe it's time to say goodbye. I do think he's had some bad luck but Saturdays performance ( like many in the 2nd half of the season) worried me, I wasn't really bothered about the result because like many I don't think we're ready for promotion but having watched the highlights of all the weekend games the thing that sticks out is that the team losing with time running out started to throw men forward, everyone apart from us that is we looked just as unlikely to score in the last 5 minutes as the 1st. I realise that SM is probably under orders as how to play but surely he should have had the balls to say let's go out having a go not with a whimper, this and the fact that for whatever reason he has created a rift in the fan base, some of the chants like,Mumble, Mumbles, Black n White Army have been very noticeable & embarrassing this season, suggests to me that things have gone to far to turn round, I will support whoever is our coach/manager next season but I'm afraid that much like this season many wont.
