Ricardo Moniz. He’d get us up straight away now. Even if we kept losing, they’d give us promotion, just for the coat!

At the time it was a crazy appointment and our scouting was terrible. He bought in some rubbish and he got sacked for it. Can’t deny the attack, attack, attack style was brilliant though. Even if I did agree with the sacking at the time! After watching Maynardball for so long now, I’d pay for Ricardos airfare!

Wasn't it Guy Branston who brought in the rubbish? It was indeed crazy to have someone recruiting for a manager with a totally opposite football philosophy.

Yeah, Branston signed a bunch of players, Moniz then bought in Swertz (can't spell his name), Jenner, Civard and Schneiders. Most were way past their sell by date but kind of played how he wanted to play so basically we were loaded rubbish but Moniz managed to get a bit of a tune out them and made Stead look not like a donkey somehow. I liked Moniz, he was crazy, but was entertaining. He'd be well suited to the club now though

Glad he's gone - definitely. I'm pleased and relieved in equal measures.
Maynard is indeed a decent guy and I think he was doing the best he could, but as the club statement says, results and performances weren't good enough. The football in the second half of the season was mostly dire to watch, particularly at home. I think if the entertainment value is high then you can get away with a few poor results, but if you sit through 90 minutes of slow, negative dross AND lose, then you wonder why you've paid your hard-earned cash. Certainly the thought of watching Maynardball again next season wasn't going to shift many extra season tickets.

Guy fecking Branston. I remember me and the kids were on one of Les Bradds stadium tours and we head out to the pitch and up there in the directors box was Branston with an agent. Les said “ah. There’s Guy. Our scout.”
The look on Branston’s face was priceless. “ I’m head of ****ing recruitment. Get it right!” Les just walked off laughing.

We got ourselves into the top 3, but then over the final dozen games or so, with players coming back from injury, we proceeded to throw away a pole position over a run-in that wasn't so hard really.

Yes, our squad was flawed and unbalanced but the competition was no great shakes either - the importance of the games should have dragged out better performances from the likes of Macari, Palmer, Grant, Jatta, Traore etc etc.

What was it? Fear and nerves? Overcomplicating things with tactics and team changes? Poor team spirit? Just plain old poor leadership? Bad training and preparation? Poor instructions to the players?

I suppose it doesn't matter, we have a chance at a new start now. But we should've done significantly better than we did and it's a curiosity as to exactly why we/he/they blew it so badly
He was fine this season when he could any pick 3 out of Crowley, Didzy, Jatta and a fully fit Jones. Things went wrong when they werent available or left. The difference between a good coach and a bad coach is imo getting a tune out of lesser players on a regular basis and that was something he could never really manage.

The real warning signs should have been last season when he had the opposite of a new manager bounce. He did nothing to improve a crappy defence but also managed to turn a squad containing JJ, Macca, Jatta, Crowley, Nemane and an admittedly only occasionally fit Didzy into a boring team, while not taking responsibility for anything. Should never have been given another go this season.

Not quite the same though, this man has managed 257 games with a win percentage of 57%. And that's not non-league games.

But like people say, there's very little chance he would take the job, I get that. But he has been seen at Notts, and the others have not, except Williams, of course.

Somehow I doubt we'd be Cruisin'.
