I'd speculate that a stumbling block might be the termination clauses the better coaches would want to negotiate. You can understand the Bros not wanting big pay outs in case of failure.
I'm guessing, but can termination clauses vary a lot?
Hinshelwood had a great season at York to be fair. But I agree - do we really need another manager who's side gets bullied in big matches? I get the feeling the bros will go for him or someone similar, someone without L2 experience or a promotion on their CV. Another semi-experiment. The thing is, if we pushed the boat out and got someone like Ian Evatt or Dean Brennan, we'd be nailed on for promotion. We have everything in place to succeed apart from a winner as a head coach.

I would have liked us to go for Brennan, but he’s just signed a new 3-year deal at Barnet so that’s probably a non-starter.
Hopefully the bros will release their end of season review very soon, and that will give us a better indication of whether they will be tweaking the playbook.
Managers who have already achieved promotion and success at the level we currently play at are more likely to do so again than those who have achieved nothing. If our strategy is to maximise our chances of promotion, we'd be better off getting a manager who has already managed that elsewhere. It's not a guarantee of success, but it's less of a risk than what we normally do.
Re Hinshelwood, I suppose he would have achieved promotion last season in any other division. 96 points is pretty incredible and it's a huge injustice that they aren't in L2. That alone makes him a stronger candidate than most on the list.

Bit harsh to judge the bloke on 1 game after a 96 point season!
I do like the NL playoff format, but York were at a distinct disadvantage this season going into that game having not played for 15 days, while Oldham had played the week before, got a decent win, and were match sharp. We all want someone with multiple EFL promotions but even so I think Hinshelwood would be a very good appointment.
anyone else getting a little bit nervous that we haven't appointed anyone yet?
Sacking the head coach without a replacement lined up? Not really the brothers' style, I would've thought.
At least they did it at the end of the season so it's not necessarily a deathblow to the next one.
