SBRed Match Thoughts Peterborough United v Barnsley

Normally a happy hunting ground is London Road and I don't see why it can't be tomorrow evening either .

Whether Hourihane will give McGoldrick the night off i don't know but I would like to see Cleary given a go if indeed McGoldrick has his feet up at home , got to look after David McGoldrick in my opinion.

I think McGoldrick will play and thats why Conor took him off early last saturday ,plus sat where I sit just behind the dug outs he looked gutted to be coming off against Bolton which indicates to me that his current fitness levels are good and he wants to play. The big question for me is who replaces Yoga in the starting eleven, does he play Russel , Kelly or Bland ? we will see . I always fancy us at Peterboro and I do tonight although after they lost again last Saturday I expect Ferguson to get a reaction out of his team and therefore I expect a very tough game but think we will get over the line.

I think he may go with the tried and tested Russell? Although Bland has done himself a world of good with his early season performances! For me it all depends on whether Watson starts at Right back, if he doesn't i think Bland will play there?
Didzy should at least start tonight.

Possibly the weakest we?ve been this season (of course still early doors) and I fear a team with more quality would?ve punished us.

However, we again looked very good in attack and on another night, could have had 4 or 5.

    Glad for a clean sheet.

Few standout players for me were Earl, Vickers, Kelly and Watson.

Vickers, Kelly and Watson I agree with Nerf, but not Earl. Why does he decide to.play on the edge of our area? He was very lucky twice that the ref gave fouls on him, one which clearly wasn't! And with 2 minutes of injury time you play he hits a long ball to their keeper, when he should be hitting it back to Cooper!
Didzy never stops running, so fit that lad, Connell's passing 1st half was woeful, but what a player we have in Vickers caused them problems all night!
Onwards and upwards now, 4 games in total, yet to be beaten, 3rd in the league and 1st clean sheet will hopefully breed confidence.

I didn't see the game but it was a great to find out this morning we'd come away from Posh with the three points .

Great start to the season and confidence really building , everyone seems to have bought in to the way Hourihane wants to play .

    Ticking along nicely.

A good 3 points without the gloss of previous performances , first half we struggled somewhat but could have easily gone in two or 3 up with the pressure and chances created in the last few minutes after taking the lead , in the second half we had several opportunities to wrap it up and these chances fell to the right players and we also hit the post twice but hey 3 points away from home in any fashion is a great result , I thought they were all off it in the first half but quality showed in the second half with Connel being head and shoulders above the rest and when he came on Bland was excellent , honourable mentions for Kelly , Ogbetta and Earle with Cooper looking very confident, we move on to saturday where a similar result would be fantastic .

Earl does try and play a bit too much in his own third and he misplaced a few passes and nearly got caught but I think his actual defending last night was really good. He made some crucial tackles, headers and I think his general calmness, which can sometimes lead to losing the ball, helped us keep the clean sheet.

McGoldrick doesn’t surprise me too much with his fitness and overall play. Loads were banging on about his age when we signed him and yeah, we all wish he was 27 instead but he still offers loads. Maybe not with us but I can see him playing into his 40s. Biggest surprise last night was that he missed those chances, particularly the second one.

Agree about Vickers. His feet and dribbling are too quick/good for defenders at this level. First half he was the best player on the pitch and deserved the goal. He did fade a bit second half but he never stopped running for the team. I just wish we’d somehow got him on a permanent this summer because I think he could well end up a premier league player at his peak. At the very least a top end championship one.

First game I have seen this season.

Thoughts, first half was dire, both sides lacking composure and quality and we looked like a team still trying to get to know each other, despite our results so far. Second half Connell & Co started to perform and McGoldrick still a class act, great to see him in a Barnsley shirt not an opposition one.

Certainly, some good acquisitions made to the squad with some dead wood or character issue lads moved on.

Players to come back from injury and suspension and if we can add a good defender and striker to the squad, suddenly the future can at last start to look a lot brighter for Barnsley FC.
