You can't put out the state pension in terms of hourly rate because it isn't wages earned for labour. In reality it becomes 281.25 for your 37.5 hour week but with no hours worked in return.

State pension is insignificant to many pensioners who have private and other pensions as their main source of income as well as savings to fall back on. Those who don't have that will possibly have additional benefits to make up their living costs. They also likely won't have the expenses that a younger person just starting out might have - mortgage, kids' costs, travel (except two or three holidays per year) etc.

I don't think RRoS digs at pensioners, he just knows how entitled they've become and how they've become much better off than they were back in the day compared to younger working people. Time to stop all over 60/ over 65 concessions and to start applying more concessions to younger people in my opinion. And that's from someone who's getting close to the age to qualify for these.
