State pension is insignificant to many pensioners who have private and other pensions as their main source of income as well as savings to fall back on. Those who don't have that will possibly have additional benefits to make up their living costs. They also likely won't have the expenses that a younger person just starting out might have - mortgage, kids' costs, travel (except two or three holidays per year) etc.

I don't think RRoS digs at pensioners, he just knows how entitled they've become and how they've become much better off than they were back in the day compared to younger working people. Time to stop all over 60/ over 65 concessions and to start applying more concessions to younger people in my opinion. And that's from someone who's getting close to the age to qualify for these.
    I'd disagree slightly.

?12k roughly state pension is a lot to make up from savings

Every ?100k you cud probably take 4.5% and keep your Dosh heading north so to make up state pension you probably need around ?300k in savings investments.

You cud obviously get a bit more giving Dosh up for an annuity...maybe 6.5% but money's are then gone......or ( which not a lot of people do ) realise you are mortal and will die and take 10% have a ball and leave sfa to anybody.

    The choice is yours. 😎

Fortunately the instigator of the piss take doesn't have the mental capacity to join in once it realises its piss take has been pretty much ignored.

See the current Scottish govt advert for our version of attendance allowance.

This is basically an invitation for every Scottish pensioner to apply.

If you have any semi serious or not so serious ailment......you will qualify. ....the Scottish govt then gets Dosh back in increased block grant from UK.

Completely and utterly unaffordable if independent Scottish Govt paid for it.

Absolutely. I think there's a correction coming and it's not going to be helpful to have large numbers of people who are economic migrants, and fundamentally disagree with Scottish values.

I watch old back and white cowboy movies. Often they have noble chieftain leaders who try to defeat their aggressive immigrant invaders. They fail because of the superior weapons of the immigrants. Seems to me that we are actually making the weapons for our immigrants to use.
May be quite simple to stop.

This dosent apply now but did at turn of century.

I worked for DWP for 2 years.

During a wee bit of state pension training it becomes obvious how our country was disadvantaging our own. You used to have to have 44 years stamp and 39 for a woman to receive full state pension.

I f you were a recent immigrant this dropped down to a percentage of how many years you had been legal here.

So for example been here since age 45 you maybe had to do 18 years.....think it was 90% but can't remember exactly.....minimum time was ten years I think.

So yo come across at 55 do 8 years on sick (stamp paid for you) or 8 out of ten years working.....you got full state pension.

Someone's mother maybe brought up family maybe paid small stamp for a few years say had 36 years.....didn't get full state pension.

When I pointed out the injustice of this, I got blank stares, labelled as the 2nd coming of Oswald Mosley and told that's the way it is.

This dosent apply to new state pension.

The longer any benefit system lasts the more tweaks it needs to deal with the concept of fairness. Just say no, seems to be impossible nowadays.
