Thread: What do we need in January

What do we need in January

For me we have the makings of a cracking team, just need imo a creative midfielder and a forward who knows where the goal is, a Pereira and a Phillips/ Gayle clone would be nice

A right winger for me. Im not sure that Illing Junior is the answer. Decent goal on Friday but he didnt do a lot otherwise. Ive read a bit from Boro fans and he wasnt rated highly there.

After that it’s a playmaker as you suggest.

I read that the club like to be one window ahead and so they might target a left back in January.

I like Heggebo and think he will be hard to drop irrespective of his goal tally. But that means we need goals from other positions.

I can see us selling players without a doubt. I wouldnt be surprised to see Styles go as I think hes not quite good enough in all the positions he can play.

I agree a right winger too as Wallace not good enough and apart from the goal thought Juniors play to his feet was poor. Speaking to a lot of Boro fans before the game and they didn?t rate him along with Mowatt.

Agree with Bomber too - a creative midfielder but firstly I would like the highly rated Collyer to start and make his mark.

I think Dike is finished and can see Maja breaking down again so a clinical striker for me.

    Goal scorers!!!

Creative midfielder, forward who can score on a regular basis (does not matter what type of, Wood-type or Gayle-type), right winger, backup GK, and maybe a natural RB.

Any decent strikers in Sweden within our budget?

Possibly so, two weeks ago I saw a very good, young CF from Finland score a hat trick vs my club. We won 4-3 though (were 2-3 behind in the 92 min), and his club are rock bottom (this is in our top league). There could be others, for sure, the very best of course leave for top leagues though.

As others have said, despite his really well taken goal, Iiling Junior has not shown too much else and, even if he did begin to blossom, he is only on loan so that ultimately we will need a right winger in any case. Wallace, to be fair, has done OK when he has come on lately and is still perhaps a solid back up but he certainly lacks the needed pace now. We also have Grant to come back who can play on the left if Mikey switches to the right. Not ideal, but gives us options in the meantime.

I don't believe it is critical at the moment but a more creative midfielder is, I am sure, on everybody's wish list and it would be nice to have a play-maker in the team again, though quite who might be available to us that we can afford will be the moot point! Still uncertain about Collyer, but maybe he needs more game time than he is currently getting to prove himself. If he can do this, then it probably won't be a priority position for the club to look at in January but one they will aim to improve on next summer.

As for a proven goal scorer, if we are still struggling for goals then this would certainly be on my January list as a matter of urgency and, yes, we need a decent back up GK. As ever, its all about managing our finances and balancing that with the type of players the club's model wants to bring in. I agree with all the positions SwedishBaggie lists in terms of what areas we mostly need to improve on but it will obviously all be about priorities and money.

Says it all Swedish buddy - spot on !
I’m hoping that Price’s form may pick up and return to his initial promise. (I hope his head hasn’t been turned)
I’m still a fan of Heggebo, and if Maja becomes fully fit they will provide a threat…clearly regularly finding the back of the net remains essential.
Given our reported financial situation, we are in a stronger playing position than I expected!

Hello Thomas. Kai Meriluoto. 6ft, 22 years old. Four in six league games this season and decent numbers across his youth career according to Transfermarkt. I'll keep an eye on him 😉.
