Who said that the ball is no longer important in modern football?

A Kreisliga C match in Germany was called off in truly bizarre fashion ? after the referee was bitten in the testicles by a player?s child moments before kick-off.

Referee Stefan Kahler was carrying out routine ID checks ahead of FC Taxi Duisburg II vs SV Rot-Weiss M?lheim when a young boy ? reportedly the son of an FC Taxi player ? suddenly ran onto the pitch and bit him in the groin.

Kahler was left in severe pain and had to withdraw from officiating. With no replacement referee available, the game was abandoned before a ball was even kicked.

A replay will be arranged, but whether Kahler will return to take charge remains to be seen.

On the backs of our own ball boys tops are scribed "Ball Assistant", this news brings a whole new dimension to the job.
