Would have been great to score one more, then it would have been a double digit game.
These are even rarer in pro football, but witnessed that twice watching the Millers, 6-4 v Cheltenham, Alfie scoring 4,and 4-6 v Wolves, where our player(Agard),scored a hat trick and still lost !
How often does that happen ?

I was at the 6 - 4 loss to Wolves, ex-Millers loan player Nauha Dicko also got a hat-trick for Wolves that day.
Remember it well, there was problems on the motorway due to a bad accident, so coaches had to detour to Wolverhampton.
We got in the ground around 3.20pm.
We were allocated seats at the side of the ground, with Wolves fans above us, chucking stuff down, someone said they were chucking p*ss down on us.

Strange with Salford, we hammered them midweek, then they have thumped Leyton Orient 4 - 0 in 2nd round F.A. Cup tonight.

Yep,we got stuck as well, ended up going cross country to get to Wolverhampton, strange but memorable day all-round.

That's because they played their reserves against us. They made 10 changes.

It is quiet rare in modern day football to see a scoreline ending in double digits in a match. Apart from the two already mentioned you would have to go back to 1965 when Rotherham beat Cardiff City 6-4 at Millmoor.
Other matches that have finished with 10 or more goals since 1925 are:
    Mansfield Town 8 -2 Rotherham United - 2nd May 1936
    Mansfield Town 9-2 Rotherham United - 27th December 1932
    Rotherham United 4-6 Tranmere Rovers - 25th December 1930
    South Shields 10-1 Rotherham United - 16th March 1929
    Bradford City 11-1 Rotherham United - 25th August 1928

Pre 1925 I think the average goal a match is something like 3 or 4 goals a match. Below are some matches that either Rotherham Town or Rotherham County have scored 10 or more in a match.
    Rotherham 11-2 Swinton - 11th November 1899, Sheffield Association League - Division 2, Clifton Lane, (Dr. Selby (5), S Cooper (2), Kenway (2), Baker, ?) (?, Birks)
Thornhill United 12-0 Hoyland Town - 27th January 1900, Sheffield Association League - Division 2, Red House Ground, (Hempsall (5))
Rotherham 13-0 Swinton - 10th November 1900, Sheffield Association League, Clifton Lane, (Wheatcroft (2), Eales, Parkinson, S Cooper (4), Dawson (og), Binney (3), Clark)
    Rotherham 11-0 Wath Athletic - 19th January 1901, Sheffield Association League, Clifton Lane, (Binney (3) 5', Beevors 15', E Merryweather (4), C Cooper (2), Baker, Collumbine)
    Rotherham 10-2 Clifton Mission - 26th October 1901, Rotherham Charity Cup, Clifton Lane, (E Merryweather (4), J Fletcher 20', 30', 67', Kettleborough, Taylor 40', 47') (Allen 4', Harrison (pen))
    Rotherham 16-0 Wath Athletic - 22nd February 1902, Sheffield Association League, Clifton Lane, (Hemsley 5', E Merryweather (3), Kettleborough (3) 35', Fletcher, H Fletcher (5), Taylor (2), Westwood)
    Rotherham 10-0 Heeley Friends - 6th February 1904, Rotherham Charity Cup, Semi-Final, Millmoor, (Foster (6) 20', 31', 52' Lake 30', Haigh (2), Pyle)
Thornhill United 10-0 Gainsborough Trinity Reserves - 10th December 1904, Midland League, Red House Ground, (Newsome (3) 15', Sanderson, Hodgkiss, Bryant (4), Greusil, Ripley (pen))
Rotherham County 10-0 Gresley Rovers - 28 April 1906, Midland League, Red House Ground, (Darley (2), Saul (5), Rhodes (3))
Rotherham Town 11-0 Birdwell - 6th October 1906, FA Cup, First Qualifying Round, Clifton Lane, (Levick 10', Marrison, Eyre (6), Pynegar (2), Merryweather)
Rotherham Town 10-2 Darfield United - 15th December 1910, Sheffield Challenge Cup, Clifton Lane, (Wright 15', Thompson (2)) (Peatfield)
