    Voting today?

Might have to put my tin hat on again for posting about politics 😁 but if you've a local election today in your area, I wondered how many will vote?

Just cast mine where I've voted for the candidate I think will best serve our constituency even if I might not vote for the political party they have attached themselves too. Tbh, this was a much easier choice for me than trying to chose who to vote for had it been a GE!

I'm sure, however, that many who vote across the country today will use it to express either their displeasure at Starmer & Co or else to signal their support for a particular political party rather than use it as a purely local decision. In any event, the results will make interesting reading when they come through!

I will be voting later today Omeg. Always do. Locals, generals and even used to vote in the much maligned European elections too. I don't talk or post about politics much but regardless of the outcome I have my opinions and I do like to express them at the ballot box.

    Fair play 68.

I certainly understand, particularly with the poor political options we have available to us at that moment, that when asked to vote at a GE, it can be really difficult to choose a party that people might either feel sufficiently represents their own views or that they can say they agree with the vast majority of their policies. I'd still encourage everyone to vote though and even a tactical vote to try and keep a party you really dislike out of power is better than not voting at all. No point moaning too much about stuff if you don't do what you can about it, even if individually we have next to no influence on things.

Greens will attract a lot of Starmers friends and deluded nutters. Some are running scared now with the Reform pledge that Greens welcome refugees then it?s only right they are in Green constituencies. Surely they would welcome this love in.

Those that say they don?t have a problem with illegal immigrants - I would say It?s called suicidal empathy.

I pose the question to anyone including that idiot Gary Neville living in a leafy street - would they be happy living next to a migrant hotel or a HMO full of illegals and would their wives and daughters be happy?

If any person says yes then they are fkin liars! So welcome them then get them!

Very early days with only 39 of 136 counts completed but so far Labour are (unsurprisingly) the big losers, followed by the Conservatives with Reform clearly the biggest winners from both, though the Greens have picked up places too.

If this continues, it's pretty obvious that most people are not voting for the candidate they think best for them locally but rather expressing their great dis-satisfaction with Starmer and Co and disillusion with the traditional Labour, Conservative and Lib Dem political parties. Good luck to those who have voted Reform to run their local councils because that's gone so well for those they ran before these elections.

If any GE were to follow the trend of this local election as it is so far, I think the populist vote will wreck this country. People should be careful what they wish for when their dis-satisfaction makes them vulnerable to the false promises of grifters. Can we learn no lessons from history or from what is continuing to happen in the US? Farage as a potential PM. Jesus (and I don't mean the orange Doctor Jesus &#128512

Morning Omeg - I 100% think the trend will follow into a GE because the majority are totally fed up as the country has well and truly gone to pot. No compassion whatsoever for these illegals when many of our own can?t put food on the table and can not get housing. Starmer is a danger to this country and a complete narcissist who even now ignores the level of hate and venom! Say what you like about Trump but his popularity rating is still more than double than these idiots and as for Polanski he should be in a nut house!

Hope Hull beat Millwall tonight but don?t think they will. Caleb could be a Premier player 😡

Like many, I felt that it was a mistake to sell Taylor as I always thought that he had potential but he never managed to properly break into the first team and despite signing a further 4 year contract with us in 2024 he was promptly sent out on loan to Wycombe where he did well. I guess, at the time, we had better options as centre backs and we needed the money? Still, I wish Caleb well.

Difficult to tell with some players with potential and sometimes clubs dont have the time or finances to stick with them long enough to see them develop sufficiently. Other times, it may be that the manager or formation doesn't suit. I really liked Asante, for example, but despite a few good performances he ultimately wasn't performing as we had hoped and I can't recall many on here being that disappointed when we sold him on. I wish him all the best at Coventry in the Prem. but it took him some time before he found his feet and became a regular under Lampard too.

No surprise there - Muslims have ditched Labour to support that clown who welcomes refugees.

Based on results from nearly 1,000 wards across England, we are able to find out how Labour's support is faring in areas with large Muslim communities.
At the July 2024 general election, discontent over the government's position on Gaza led Labour to lose a number of constituencies to Independents, while the Greens also saw their support rise in those areas.
In these local elections, Labour's vote has fallen sharply in wards with more than 15% Muslim populations - nearly 28 points, around 10 points more than in the rest of England.
It is important to note that this fall is against the benchmark of 2022.
In those wards that were contested in 2024, Labour's vote has actually declined less in those areas.
This reflects the fact that the discontent with Labour among Muslim voters emerged prior to the 2024 election - and continues to be a drag on the party's support.

Disappointing to see, but hardly a great surprise that Rupert Lowe's Great Yarmouth First Party made huge gains in my area. As I've posted before, Yarmouth itself is a disadvantaged town with quite high levels of immigration so is susceptible to grifters with false promises who like to blame immigration for a lot of the area's problems. To be fair, his party also picked up places in the more affluent rural divisions too.

I'm sure that more than a few voted for Lowe's party out of frustration at Starmer and Labour and a disillusionment with the Conservatives and the Lib Dems. Lowe's party manifesto makes much of the failings of traditional party politics of course but whilst it's promises to "put residents before bureaucracy" , "defend local jobs and services" and put the town "before Norwich or Westminster" appear reasonable and attractive enough, when I've either spoken to or heard those campaigning or voting for them, there has been much talk about immigration but not too much meat on the bone about how they are actually going to make good on these promises.

I'm not saying that all voters for Lowe's party are like it, but whilst I don't particularly like to use the word "thick" to describe some of them, certainly adjectives like "gullible", "uneducated", "ignorant" and "bigoted" can apply. I've also heard a few that are openly racist.

The party makes a big deal of it representing the interests of "local" people and of "ordinary working people" but the irony, of course, is that Lowe himself is a multi-millionaire (£30m I think is his estimated wealth) who lives primarily in Cheltenham.

The complacency of the liberal elite in the US allowed them to ignore the concerns of large swathes of the population which enabled Trump to get elected. Unless Starmer and Labour wake up quickly and start to realise that they need to urgently address the concerns of the electorate, populism will surely succeed here too. Sadly, one of the (several) things Starmer is not good at though is reading the room.😟
