Finding a good wing back at this level is hard. Don't over complicate it.
The problem with Jones and Jarvis is they are both left sided players and JJ is far less effective playing on the right. He probably likes to play on the right because it gives him more opportunity to score by cutting inside. Opposition defenders have sussed this out now though as it proved since his return. I can?t say I?ve seen Jarvis play on the right so I don?t know if it would work.

So he plays them both on the wrong side, great management.

Jarvis hates playing WB and it shows
Jones is prepared to play anywhere he's asked but we all know he was playing far too deep against Wimbledon
If he's on the edge of the box even having 2 or 3 defenders on him still can't stop him creating chances or getting shots off
But it's a different story if he's on the half way line with 2 or 3 to beat
    The same for Jarvis
That's why we will see a change of manager

I have no problem with possession football as our plan A, although a switch to a back four might see a midfielder dictate play, rather than one of the 3 CBs. I'm all for that, especially if it stops the five yard passes inside our box.

My biggest issue is we aren't pragmatic enough to have a plan B and C, which is why so many teams figured out they could sit deep at Meadow Lane and they'd get a result.

We shouldn't bin the style completely, but change is definitely needed.

Saka/Salah/Yamal all left footed which side do they play on ?

Jarvis is right footed but played most of his career on the left thats probably his position he prefers.

Might as well compare me to those 3? arguably 3 of the best players in the world. What all 3 of those players have (which makes them so good) is the ability to absolutely embarrass multiple players in one dribble? we simply can?t expect that. Once players like JJ are doubled up on, he becomes nullified. All 3 of those players you mention also do little in the way of defend and as such there energy is on attack attack attack. Just to be completely pedantic, they all play in possession based sides.

I think it's important fully understand that there is more than one way to play possession football. Firstly, keeping hold of the ball for long periods allows you to control the game but done properly also contributes towards making the opposition work harder either by being forced to press or by trying to maintain defensive shape, this can also have a mental impact.

It is also possible to play a style of possession based football that incorporates a degree of counterattacking. This is something Liverpool have done well this season, but then equally they do have potentially the best attacking player in the EPL in Salah who makes this very easy for him.

You can also play a style of possession that relies heavily on turnover ball when possession is lost. In this case you either have players up front who press aggressively or you have midfielders who it up the spaces in the middle of the park making it extremely difficult for the opposition to find a way through to their attacking lines.

Problem with Maynard is he just doesn't have the tenacity or bravery to mix any of these options up. Because of this the attacking players and wingbacks etc actually have no gameplan other than to hold their positions and hope that once the ball has been passed across the back 3 4 or 5 times it creates them a bit of space to receive a pass. It is also why we have relied heavily this season on players like Didzy and Crowley to work a bit of magic.

Our style of play has become predictable and turgid, even when we build from the back via a goal kick by the time we're ready to play it forward the spaces created between the lines (which is why this tactic is applied) have been covered by the opposition and we end up just giving possession away, it just isn't working.

The positive thing though has been the fact that our style of play and the set up at the club means top clubs will see us as a good option for sending out their talented youngsters on loan, Abbott being the obvious example of this. However, if we don't learn how to mix it up for next season we'll be lucky to get loan players from L1 never mind the prem.

I want to see us comfortable on the ball and able to control possession for periods of a game, but when it is necessary. I'd love us two have forward players that are aggressive in the press and midfielders with a bit of bite. I don't think we are really that far away from where we need to be, just a few tweaks, but we need the right players and the right coaching staff to achieve this, and at the moment we appear to be lacking in both.

Possession football is fine if you have the players for it, otherwise it's pants. Did you watch the playoffs? Fine example of how easy it is to play against Notts.

As a wing back, I agree entirely on JJ. However, if we tweak to a 4-3-3, Jones and Jarvis would be perfect on opposite flanks.
