Isn't that why we have head coaches not managers!? The club gets them, the coach is supposedly meant to coach them into being better players within the style of play adopted.?...
Yes except Maynard kept referring to "The management team" not "the coaching staff" especially whilst Saunders & Co were still around. It grated with me and I posted as much at the time and it smacked of him wanting to be a manager. In the end he disappointed as a coach and possibly lost confidence with himself.
The brothers have said they'll give another statement in due course, maybe this needs to clarify the situation slightly.
I believe we were always lead to understand that the term manager isn't used because of how the club works.
Which is why Notts use the term "Head Coach".
So the Head Coach does just that, coach the team, motivate them and try and get results.
It?s a tricky one. I thought the head coach model was the fashionable one nowadays but if relative no marks like the Saunders and Maynard are complaining about it, it makes you wonder who else we might be putting off?
Im fairly sceptical about the whole thing anyway. Did LW really go in to last season with little say in whether we kept our NL defence or not? I find that hard to believe.
I had heard that LW was very much the driving force behind keeping the bulk of that team together and new deals for players like Slocombe, Chicksen and Rawlinson. Also that the goalkeeping coach at the time was the one behind Aidan Stone.
So maybe they gave some leeway to a successful coaching team that summer. But with how it went, both in terms of keeping some players who proved not to be up to it and LW leaving for a bigger job a few months later anyway, they probably won?t be doing it again.
