In posting this, I can predict your response, however both PD and MH said at the start of the season the following:

It doesn?t specifically prove the point I made but it very much points to a competitive budget. Unless of course you think PW didn?t have one during his tenure.
I remember that article, it is clear that SE was useless and wasted the money in most cases, the TS shouldn’t give money to his mates and that MH has also made some terrible signings. The common players in those two seasons, the poor contract management and the signing of Hugill is of course RS and PD, yet they constantly avoid criticism whilst others don’t. These two will also be active making decisions in January……….good luck.
According to this, Rotherham are currently paying the 7th highest wages in the league, which essentially translates to the 7th highest budget (excluding fees paid for players). It won't be totally accurate but it probably gives a reasonable indication.
(Scroll down past the bar chart to see the spend on wages)

One thing to remember is that this is WAGES and not the budget given to Hamshaw in the summer. Our manager will have inherited a lot of players on good wages from the previous regime (Hugill, Kelly, Raggett, Dawson and others) and so therefore the money available to him last summer to bring in new players may not necessarily have been the 7th highest in the league, if that makes sense.

There's not going to be many goals scored without a goal scorer for the offence to focus on. The hysterical reaction after Wednesday isn't as bad today thank goodness but we desperately need two strikers who know where the net is to replace Etete and Sherif who have never been consistently fit. Given those two strikers Wednesday and today we could have had all six points. Imagine the season with a fit threesome as above plus Nombe. It would look so so different. I bang the same drum and it seems like excuses but how can any team do anything with just Hugill up there and today young Josh Ayres who isn't going to do much for us yet. Hardly the dynamic duo.
Who signed the 2 forwards who are injured?
Who resigned Kyodie?
Who resigned J Holmes?
Who signed Benson who is injured again?
Who signed Yearwood who has been injured?
People talk like hes inherited the injured players.
All his signings.
Why drop Douglas?
Why keep putting Powell on set pieces?
Why keep getting Dawson to hoof it?
Agreed. Set pieces not beating first man and the hoofing it points are outrageous problems and should have been sorted by now. There's plenty that ought to be better but the loss of the goal scorers leaving just Hugil has given us little chance to be any kind of force.
I maintain we have some good players and the team as a whole would play with greater tempo but there's no pace up top, no channels run etc. so a lot of our offence stalls and gets frustratingly recycled sideways and back. For all the forward department to be out at the same time for so long will be soul destroying for the manager too. We've got to try to support through gritted teeth as times as it's our club and hope that the Jan window gives us what Nombe Sherif Etete and JJ haven't. Consistent fitness and accompanying goals that would definitely have come from the brief times we've seen them. There'll still be plenty of points to play for Jan onwards and this division is so poor who knows where we'll finish with goal scorers available.
