I just hope he can devote enough time to RUFC given all his other work commitments.
This is the key point. Advise only. Others have to agree and take action…….

    Welcome aboard.

First order should be to appoint a shadow board. Absolute respect for Phil and his achievements, ability, obvious presence and passion, but for the club to embark (pun intended) on a journey to consolidate as a regular tier two side over the next 20 or 30 years, it needs to understand its younger fans.

Whether people like it or not, younger generations live markedly different lifestyles and can earn and spend very differently to those just a handful of years older. People can be critical of them for living in the 'instant gratification' mindset, so why not reverse that logic on older generations and accept that if we put instant success (the SE model) to one side and think what a club will look like in 2046 in order to attract a good following. I'm sure some on here will already know that pie and pint isn't as appealing to many youngsters, and it doesn't end there.

Engage with younger fans in a meaningful way. Many of us won't be here/in good enough health to be doing 46 games a season for the 20-30 years he talks about.

This appointment is exactly what we need. After listening to his interview, I am so impressed with what he sees as a future Rotherham United. We have been crying out for a proven leader who has both a short term plan and a long term and a proper Millers fan who wants to WIN.He has identified the untapped potential on the commercial side at the club,The empty units and the G&C eyesore that's been ongoing for years and no doubt the inadequate training grounds will be on the agenda. In this window we have brought in some exciting prospects to the club but the signing of Phil Smith is by far the most tremendous of all.W'ell be down on Saturday to cheer the Millers on and thank you Phil for this positive injection you have given us.

I don't know when their contract is up, but i'll ask some discreet questions..lol.

I'll ask Casper when he nexts comes up.....take care pal......UTM.

Just been nosey, and Eliot UK signed a 3yr contract with RUFC to provide ALL catering at NYS, not just matches.
At one time sons mate was manager of the catering at NYS.
The same firm covered Sheffield Wednesday, & Rangers ( Scotland ).
He was at NYS one week, then Hillsborough week after, but when the fixtures brought both clubs playing same day, he always covered Hillsborough.

ELK, don't know how long ago your talking about. It was company called Centreplate( maybe called Lindley) who took on the contract at first. Yes, they did the same at other clubs as well, including Gillingham at the time i'm on about. Don't know if they're Elior now?
Most of the young staff are on an Agency, as are some of the senior staff. 1 lady used travel and work at St Andrews when we were away, must have been good pay to travel to Birmingham. They changed Agencies so they lost the contract.

The last news from Elior was that they'd got a 3yr contract at NYS, that was 2021. I'll ask around on Saturday.

There's your answer of why so many players came in yesterday, his money, his interjection and what timing.

His persona, stance, intellect, care for the club he's followed for 50 years, makes me feel there really is a footballing god looking down on us. A man of drive, passion, and determination just in his voice, makes you want to applaud him and all that from a Rotherham lad born into a steel working family....totally grounded.

    Here's the full interview....

Interesting interview. If he is well-connected to the Stewarts, he won't be too critical of past and recent performance. He highlights the

past achievements and the continuing benefit of the current ownership, but I'm hoping there's an unspoken agenda which will include

some financial investment as well as a performance review.

He speaks of us as being a Championship club, but running a club at that level takes serious money. Selling a company for 400m is a lot

of money, but not many years of serious investment at Ch. level.

Does anyone know just how deep his pockets are?

Yes it was Lindley at the time Avondalemiller.
I took Lee ( manager ) & my son to the airport plus return travel
Lee fetched me a signed football with Steve Evans + team signatures on after promotion.

Phil Smith brings a different and valuable skillset to the Board. A specialist in Commercial Strategy and Business Transformation, he is just what we need to elevate the club to a professional level - off the field. We have a great stadium, a management team and squad that have the potential to deliver results on the field, and we now have someone who can tackle the peripheral activities associated with hospitality, merchandise, catering and infrastructure. He could really boost the Rotherham United image and make us a successful business thereby fuelling a drive to his vision of a Championship outfit.
