Yes they are, in association with the RSPCA. Every fatality is logged and investigated, and the stats are used to make improvements such as re-siting, removing or omitting fences with an inordinate number of falls, restricting the number of runners, and better post-race treatment of horses. It will never be perfect, but I can assure you a lot is being done to improve things.

Just done a quick search and it seems there are 21 trainers based in the Malton area, including a few big yards:

I would love to see some of the northern trainers win the Derby and such like, I know Johnstone, Burke etc. win grade ones but the likes of Gosden, Stoute and O'Brien seem to mop up. Mind you with the Arabs and Coolmore behind them you can see why.

I must admit that I clicked the button and was quite shocked and disgusted by the pics and the numbers......I'm not sure how the heck you can ban horse-racing though?.......huge money is involved

"never be perfect" ... I suppose you think it's ok if it's only a few dozen horses that get maimed and destroyed each year as sacrifice to your gambling habits?

And pray tell, all this logging and investigating you claim is going on, how much is it helping the situation? What has been the reduction in maiming and destruction of horses due to all this?

Utter rubbish. Horse racing has gone on for many centuries and will continue for many centuries. Certain 'sports' have quite rightly been banned because their purpose was to kill an animal. From bear baiting through to the likes of hare coursing and fox hunting in recent times it was the correct decision to end them. I am pleased that every effort is being made to reduce equine fatalities in racing in conjunction with the RSPCA these days, best of luck to them.

I'd ban boxing first of any recognised sport.

Deliberate attempt to injure someone badly - just can't be right.

While you are at it let's ban all smoking and alcohol it causes thousands of deaths and is costing the NHS and tax payer millions. Don't let's not stop there ban all fast food and takeaways because obesity is the next major problem. Let's close all churches, mosques, synagogues etc. ban religion and make it compulsory to all be atheists, that will stop people being killed in the name of religion.

You know naff all. Horses are herding animals by nature, if they are being chased by a predator they will jump into the unknown naturally or risk being caught! They have also been bred to run for over 300 years it's in their DNA to run and if a horse doesn't want to run it won't.
