It seems to me that there must have been a reason why the initial decision was made to exclude Scottish peatlands from the calculations of carbon capture for Scotland. I think it looks like an odd decision and there does not seem to be a scientific justification.
No the point Islay made, intentional or not, was that the peatlands are emitting Carbon into the atmosphere and that this is somehow a bad thing. I pointed out to him that globally peatlands contribute a very small percentage of the total Carbon emissions to atmosphere. What I forgot to mention was that they've been doing this for millenia without issue. In fact by cutting the peat away and burning it you could say the emissions are being reduced because as I pointed out all modern chimneys have scrubbers that remove carbiniferous particulates preventing their release to atmosphere.

The amount of peatland on Islay is insignificant globally and IDB is trying to suggest some sort of global catastrophe is waiting round the corner beczause the SG and whisky industry are in cahoots over hiding the amount being cut and burned on a small island off the west coast of Scotland. This sums up how many people view the world, they see one factory near them with a 'continuous plume of smoke' coming from its chimney and assume the worst. I'd like Islay to do some of his research and find out the constitution of those emissions. I'm willing to bet that it will be within government guidelines and will be mostly water. He can start by telling us the colour of the smoke - I bet I can guess.

Whether he is willing to give that explanation is debatable.
The only problem with peatlands is the draining of water by tree planting (taking these down is pointless according to ID and by the network of drainage ditches that have been created over the centuries. Re-wetting of peatlands by tree removal and ditch management is well under way, it is this that will recover the peatlands not stopping the Laphroiag distillery burning peat to make their delicious beverage.

The whisky distilleries would be far better sponsoring the main roads on Islay which are wrecked every year thanks to the 44 ton HGV lorries delivering goods and supplies to these distilleries.
The roads are full of pot holes caused by these 44 ton HGVs but none of the politicians or the Islay Community Councillors do anything about because they are happy to ‘touch the forelock’ to the owners of the whisky distilleries on Islay.
I suggest that you take a holiday on Islay and see the damage caused to the main roads for yourself.
