Personally I want trump to live, lose the election and stand trial for what he's done. He's managed to escape justice too many times.

But things are looking particularly ugly over there right now.

You could argue (from the Western perspective) that Putin wasn't elected in a democratic election, but the answer is still no.

What's the perspective from which he was elected in a democratic election?

The glib answer would be a Russian perspective, and perhaps various other non-western countries who have a different definition of democracy compared with us, but perhaps that needs unpacking a little more.

Being a westerner, I don't perceive Russia as a democratic country, and I'm highly dubious about the democratic claims of various other countries, not least those who seem to like to call themselves Democratic Republics!

However, the West really has no more divine right to define the interpretation of democracy than anyone else, indeed the British interpretation of a democratic system could certainly be open to question when you see the outcomes delivered by First Past The Post the other week!

As I've got older I've come to appreciate, far more, why non-Western countries find the West's presumptions to have the best political systems (and answers to life in general) questionable, if not arrogant. We do have a bit of a God complex about us, when actually all we've got is a view, not a definite correct answer. I think western democracy is the best, but then I would, wouldn't I?

This is a man who is quite happy to be pro gun which results in the needless deaths of many many Americans each year. As we all know. He can't complain about getting shot when he's the one vindicating everyone owning a gun and promoting gun culture. And I for one can't have any sympathy for him on that basis and the way he has treated so many peoples lives with utter contempt. Trump himself says a lot of stuff. Clean the swamp blah blah blah Yet he is quite happy to muscle himself in as the presidential candidate in the current fixed 2 party system isn't he.

So because he supports the American tradition of carrying a gun, because he supports the US constitution, and because you disagree with his politics (clean the swamp), you believe he can't complain about being shot? What sort of twisted logic and odious sentiment is this?
