The 3-3 v Leeds for me. Came back from holiday the night before. Totally knackered and thought we were dead and buried then suddenly the world was a better place. Happy daze.

Enough politics, back to the footy
Regardless of the rest of the season it started, what has been your best/most enjoyable first match of the season? The one that either gave you immense (probably misguided) hope for the campaign to follow, or had a particular magic moment in it?
I was walking round a garden centre in Breedon when we beat sunderland 5-0 so maybe someone else will claim that one, so I'd go for either the 2-2 against Man Utd the first season we won the league or the 3-3 against Leeds when we returned to the first division in 96/97, both great matches.
I was also at the first match of the 87/88 season v. Luton as a guest of a distant relative of Mick Harford, we arrived at our seats in the directors' box a couple of minutes in, and Mick promptly got sent off a minute later. The first player ever to be shown a red card in English league football as I recall
Anyone?

Hell yes ! I remember the 5-0 at the BBG against Suderland....................... walked out after the game on a bright summers day and saw some very unhappy Sunderland supporters. As I passed one he said in a loud voice "YA WERE LUCKY MAN !" to which I replied, "YES FIVE TIMES", then made a hasty escape :-)![]()
Beating Man U in the Watney Cup Final in 1969, just before the season started. Lovely hot day as I recall.
We stuffed them, Best, Charlton, Law, Stiles Crerand, Kidd, the lot of them
Stepney, I always thought was a lot like Joe Hart, an accident waiting to happen and every time he played us he made a clanger.
Stepney and Sprake both made lots of mistakes

...yes he was always good for a clanger, never looked like a keeper either. Two years later he was actually Man Utd's leading scorer until mid february, taking their pens in that awful season when they were trully **** and got relegated by Dennis Law's 'act of treachery' backheeled goal. And yes it was a boiling hot day, as I recall all the Watney cup matches were on sunny days
I did not know that the red card was introduced so late!!! Thank you for that information, and you are correct about Mick...

I can't remember a 1st game that really stands out that I've attended.
