Does anyone look at xG stats?

I'm guessing most on here don't with the reasoning being that football is not decided by a mathematical algorithm, or words to that effect. I can understand that point of view.

But personally I'm looking at xG more and more. It's actually quite an interesting measure of a team's performance because rather than just looking at shots on target or possession, it's a measure of the quality of chances a team creates.

Take yesterday's game as an example. Luton had 69% possession and 12 shots. However, their xG was very low at only 0.57 which tells you that the shots they had were poor quality chances. Our xG yesterday was 0.04 which is incredibly low and reflects a fairly non existent attacking threat. And when you look at how the game actually went, the xG gives you a fair reflection of that.

Obviously that's just looking at one game but over a number of games and looking at average xG, home xG, away xG, etc, it can make very interesting reading and give an insight into a team's performance levels which are not necessarily reflected in the league table.

Anyway, I'll bore off now. I just wondered what people's thoughts are.

Another one of those pointless statistics in my opinion......along with possession percentage.

Our fairly reflected what we were, a well organised team playing a system that stifles the opposition but in doing so is unlikely to make chances to score ourselves
