Charlton put in a good showing against Wrexham, but despite a bounty of chances, fell to a 1 - 0 defeat. Oliver Rathbone scoring for the away side in the first half.
The first 30 minutes, Luke Berry came close when his goal bound effort was blocked and Harry Clarke despite being in pole position, shot wide in front of goal.
Rathbone scored against the early run of play for Wrexham on 30 minutes firing low into the bottom right hand corner.
In the 2nd half, Joe Rankin-Costello replaced Berry. Sonny Carey played in Rankin-Costello who couldn't quite get the finishing touch. Then there were chances from Tyreece Campbell who headed over from close range and a Carey shot landed just wide of the post. In the meantime Kayne Ramsay had blocked a Wrexham goal bound shot.
Miles Leaburn and Charlie Kelman replaced Amari’i Bell and Conor Coventry to ratchet up the pressure on Wrexham. Leaburn volleyed over and in the 90th minute Carey was denied a near certain goal when saved by the Wrexham goalkeeper Okonkwo.
In the end the result didn't justify the team's valiant efforts and graft but it's something to build on next against Birmingham at the Valley.
