I don't think you are far off about Ukraine agreeing a deal with Putin/Russia direct. Would have to be done though a mediator state, which isn't the EU or the US.
I think both sides want to end it and for Ukraine it might be a case of better the devil you know and Putin won't be around forever.

On another subject. I do agree with the German boy who states the EU need to reduce their depenence with the US.

Agree that was cringe worthy but on the whole the PM came out of that well. I can only assume the US realises there are certain countries that are worth keeping on side. I've always been of the opinion that the US is pretty impressed with the intelligence (no laughing at the back) that we produce, can't see them being to happy to lose access to that. Maybe a present time version of WWII's 'you give us the tools, we'll finish the job' mentality.
