I also wonder if he would walk away, rather than be sacked, if he feels it just isn't working out for him.

Sacking is always the easy part though. It's who we then get in that is always the worry.

The high of the 24th May seems such a long time ago now.
Im with you dd in regards to wanting it to work out for Thelin but sadly only see things ending in one way.

The football we are seeing under him is just as bad or possibly worse than anything we have seen under McInnes,Glass,Goodwin or Robson and ironically thats why we went down the route of appointing him because people thought the football was dreadful under those Scottish football managers.

I know its not a popular opinion on here and I have said it many times but after Goodwin got fired at Easter Road almost 3 years ago and Cormack said on the radio he would get it right I posted on here that he needed to take a step back and let someone else run the club. Unfortunately even from events over the last week it still doesnt seem like he is allowing that to happen.

Im not saying Cormack is a bad guy and he is obviously a successful businessman but he doesnt have a clue about running a football club and his strategy of signing players to sell them on for a profit isnt working for us. The squad just isnt suited for Scottish football, yes have some project players to develop and sell on for millions but you need a strong core of players who can dig in and have a bit of fight when we are struggling which we clearly dont have.

Thelins going to be gone sooner or later but my biggest concern is that its not going to make any difference because of the way the club is being run.

    • Rico94’s correct, in my view, when he says “… but you need a strong core of players who can dig in and have a bit of fight when we are struggling …”

We have a few Strachan-types in the team but too few Simmy and Cooper-types and a blend of such players is a prerequisite for this tough physical league - McInnes knows that!

Plus, we have no physical presence up front to challenge for the occasional cross that comes into the box, missing the first man.

Sorry, Jimmy, but it’s your players AND your system which are both inappropriate for this league and the results over the last TEN months prove this.

Plus, the football is DREADFUL to watch.

History tells us that you’ll soon have to pay the price for these mistakes, I’m afraid.

      • Without knowing exactly the role of a Director of Football, I think a proper one would be hopefully earning his corn now.

By hopefully being both experienced in the game, in having played at a high/decent level and having no emotional attachment to the club, so he can see the bigger picture and ask the right questions and support the manager.

You would like to think he would ask JT the right questions and challenge him on player selections, tactics and formations.
Point the things out on the pitch that most fans are seeing and getting frustrated with.

Most fans know when something on the pitch is wrong. It is stupid to suggest otherwise as we watch enough games. We might not be experts and are emotionally attached, but we know shyte when we see it.

With the zombie club winning last night, it's going to crank the pressure up on Thelin over the next few games.

The media scent blood and love hounding out managers and at this moment it's between Martin and Thelin as to who goes first.

        • When the opposing manager and by virtue of that, the opposing team, know your formation and how you're effectively going to line up players wise every match then you've already lost half the battle. It certainly makes me believe that the great start we had to last season was simply down to Jimmy being an unknown quantity in the league and once the first round and a bit of fixtures were passed then every manager worth their salt knew how to shut us down.

Having us set up in a 4231 formation, especially when the 2 are in their mid 30's basically has you with only 4 attacking minded players in the 11. With the greatest of respect to our league that is totally unacceptable, especially when we're playing at home.

I guarantee that if Jimmy does go, which it appears he will very soon based off of the last 10 months performances and results, that the next manager coming in, whether it's caretaker or full time, will instantly change shape and go with a simpler 442 or 433 that 99% of players grew up playing and are comfortable with. We're not in a sticky position where we'd have to go round pegs/square holes to facilitate this as we have quite a balanced squad in terms of natural positions and also with age/experience.

I held out hope that once Jimmy had this full summer window to get in his players and ditch who he didn't want that we'd see an instant impact over last season but if anything the football on show has got worse. It's possibly been the worst, in an attacking sense, that I can remember for many years. We genuinely don't look like scoring ever again at this point and if defeat comes on Tuesday then it really will be all over for me with Jimmy.

He has been backed more than any AFC manager in history I'd wager and for a team that has many international players within the squad then the results and performances have been grossly dire. Only Jimmy can sort this out but the run of results isn't a flash in the pan, this has been since Nov last year and that suggests to me that he really can't change his thinking to address the obvious.

          • How much JT is a cr@p football tactician I am of the strong belief that if a player has been around and seen as much as 3 or more managers sacked the said players should also be shown the door at the next available opportunity.
You cannot expect things to change when you use the same personnel to do a job when after quite a few previous attempts they have failed themselves.
I couldnÂ’t care what nationality they areÂ…if you have seen 3 managers sacked whilst you have played for their teams you should be removed from the club as you are constantly involved in failure.

            • It is atrocious of our club board to accept 5 wins in 33 league matches. Aberdeen football club need better leadership than this. Feeling sorry for a football manager just because he is a nice guy is not professional. We need to strive for far better. Weak leadership from the top of the tree wonÂ’t see strong performances from the staff below.

Remember all of those years under McInnes when you said we could easily bring in a better manager than him?

                That really hasnt aged well.

Has any aberdeen manger went longer than Jimmy without scoring a goal?

                  • Yes, Cormack has failed us in that respect. The Anchor man was done at Aberdeen and even you must admit that. 1 trophy during his tenure (penalty win against Inverness) which has been matched by Jimmy Turnip. We didnÂ’t come close to winning anything else either as he generally bottled the other cup final appearances.
I would sack Thelin now though as he is also well off it with the money/players he has or could have had.
Take his cr@p recruitment guys with him as well.
Cormack should not be allowed to pick the next manager (along with Stewart Milne, Alan Burrows, Steven Gunn, the rest of the FM.
The new manager should also rip up the contracts of any player who has seen the last 3 managers sacked.

If they are needing someone to do their dirty work for them they can easily find me. I am up for the challenge.

Did Derek McInnes not go through a spell of us not scoring a goal near the end of his tenure?

That is true. I am sure he has another match to go to match Ebbe.
Ebbe was far better fun than Jimmy Thelin though.

                            • It must be the end of Jimmy if we fail to get anything other than a win in the match via Dundee.
Keeping him as manager in the hope it gets better is why we are currently bottom of the league.
I think everyone at Aberdeen FC has given up. The white flag has been raised.
It might well be up to our new director of football to take charge as no one brave enough to pull the trigger. Wimps!
