So that's every non-communist country in the world then, that deserves everything coming to them; poverty, disease, high suicide rates... they deserve it all do they? If only you lived in the real world then you might not be so naive to believe all the crap you make up in your pretty little head.Originally posted by swaledale View PostAs for getting under my skin, well if a country being led by outright proven liars doesn't concern a people, then frankly they deserve whats coming.

They won't know any different as, given that they are 5 to 10 age range now, they will only have ever worked in a Brexitted economy, so that will be the new normal alongside any residual covid new normalcy.
Except of course when their grandad reminisces over a glass of port after Christmas Dinner of "those halcyon days when we were still in the EU" and how much better off we would have been if we'd stayed put 🙂. He will ramble on about the terrible days of the early 2020s under prime minister Cummings and food rationing before falling into an alcohol fuelled post prandial slumber, allowing the granchildren to play on the gift he gave them - a virtual reality game called "Remainer - How it should have been" where they can live out life under the federal Republic of Europe, recently renamed "Germany"

Their Grandad, indeed all their grandparents, will be long gone and in no position to reminisce, GP. Nor will he need to, they’re already living the early 2020’s and their lives have already been impacted.Originally posted by Geoff Parkstone View PostThey won't know any different as, given that they are 5 to 10 age range now, they will only have ever worked in a Brexitted economy, so that will be the new normal alongside any residual covid new normalcy.

It may become the ‘new normal’ but it seems unlikely, a bit like Covid’s ‘new normal’, to be an improved normal. If that is the case...what is the point?

it will be different for sure, but new normals are not necessarily worse, just different. Mankind adapts. Not all historical development is necessarily a leap forward, evolution is not always unerringly positive, mankind tends to lurch forward a bit, perhaps regress and move forward again. the 1920's an upward curve after WW1, then the stock market crash, the depression recovery a bit, another world war, rationing and the 50's, the hope of the 60's then high inflations and Thatcher, the economic boom of the 80s/90s, the crash of 2008. its advancement in fits and starts.
My bet is that history will see Brexit as being a blip where our economy stalled and things changed, but the economic development of the world is all evolving, Europe is becoming less dominant as a source of production, more important as a consumer. We will have short term pain, whether we have any gain, who can tell, but the the context of history I suspect Brexit will be seen as a bit like the loss of the empire - an event that at the time seemed destructive to our economy, but how ever many years on may be seen as but a little blip
Anyway, I like the image of 80 year old great grandad Widderanag in his dotage in a rocking chair telling tales of yesteryear to a new generation, whilst their parents react like Rodney and Dell when Grandad starts going on with his "when I was at sea in the Navy" storiesLast edited by Geoff Parkstone; 14-12-2020, 05:04 PM.

I’m sure you do...but that 80 year old Grandad will only be 14 - 15 in your case - years into Rees-Mogg’s half century, although Adi might just be in long trousers.
Is that really what we have to look forward to? (Not Adi in long trousers...obviously.)
Don’t recognise the parallel with the ‘loss of Empire’, completely different relationship, and it’s not about ‘mankind’ adapting it’s about the UK.
I do hope you’re right but for all your informed optimism I can’t forget that you voted ‘Remain’.Last edited by ramAnag; 14-12-2020, 05:37 PM.

Ah well now that statement just doesn't add up! Every country in the world isn't run by proven liars and why you add the qualification "non communist" country is a bizarre, do you think communists don't lie?Originally posted by AdiSalisbury View PostSo that's every non-communist country in the world then, that deserves everything coming to them; poverty, disease, high suicide rates... they deserve it all do they? I live more in the real world than some on here and thats for sure. But then your comments show how much your in touch with reality..not!
Whilst politics involves a certain amount of stretching the truth, not every politician actually tells obvious lies as the current ones have and the lies that have been peddled over Brexit are breathtaking - if you were stupid enough to vote for Brexit and Johnson, then yes you do deserve everything you get as result of that action.
And yes, if people actually took a little more interest in politics and what goes on, rather than just leading their dumb little lives sat in front of the TV and moaning when **** happens, then the world might be a better place.
Like a lot on here who carp and moan about people who take action, but sit on their butts and do **** all about it!.

I was so thrown by your irrelevant come back, WTF are you talking about? You know I was referring to Brexit and this thread is about Brexit, A country with nominally educated people should be able to either spot the obvious lies, or actually do a bit of research before deciding to vote.Originally posted by AdiSalisbury View PostSo that's every non-communist country in the world then, that deserves everything coming to them; poverty, disease, high suicide rates... they deserve it all do they? I was referring to those ****s that voted for Brexit without knowing what they were voting for or at least I ahve yet to hear from anyone who voted leave a valid reason for doing so. By valid I mean one based on facts and reality!

It's way more than the last couple of years in which Billionaire owned media has bombarded the general public with half truths and lies. Put spin on things to make one side look good and the other, at best, incompetent. They word their "stories" to get inside the heads of the masses and the great unwashed believe it, hook, line and sinker. In these days of online everything, telling the truth has become obsolete, getting it right has become irrelevant. All you need to do is to get your "alternative facts" out there first and often. You plant the seed and watch it grow into the very plant you require. That has been the reality for quite a while now.
However, IMO, you know that my previous paragraph is on the button and that the UK (and many other places, for that matter) needs changing to get back to "facts and reality" but it might already be too late as more and more people are avoiding "proper journalists" and are getting their "news" from "alternative sources" and they are equally as "trustworthy" as the maninstream lot.

Sadly, although most of those conned into voting for Brexit are now strangely silent, there remains a small hardcore of Brexit voters who will never accept reality, no matter what arguments are put to them. Trying to convince them that they made a mistake is pointless.

Been having a raft of weird discussions on Social Media with an aquaintance who has been predicting all manner of stuff over the past months. He is a big Trump supporter. Convinced that the voting machines were rigged in the swing states. The fact that they were imported, from China by Ivanka, and that she had all tariffs on them waived is, he says, an irrelevance. The whole "New World Order" is, apparently, behind Trump's demise because he is "still draining the swamp and they are part of it". He has been banging on for weeks that Biden is going to get arrested before his inauguration. Seems to think that would keep old Trumpers in the White House. Wouldn't it put Kamala Harris there?
Anyway, the lastest is that something HUGE is going to happen in the next few days. What will happen? He doesn't say. Then all becomes clear when he said........ "It's all over the dark web". IMO, if he can find it, then "National Security Services" and also worldwide opposition parties will have found it as well......... yet it's still a "secret". Load of old codswallop.

I'm not sure we will get a deal before Xmas, the longer it drags on the more likely no deal will be made, I doubt there'll be any extensions!! Why anybody believes anything that **** Morris says, just because he's from ****ing Derby and has no ******* hair, is beggars belief!!!!!! They won't admit that they've been conned and have all gone very silent. Still, what do you expect from a decade of Morris bad decisions?!!! Frankly, if they all don't toe my ****ing line, then they all get what they ****ing deserve, ze good little Germans!!!!!
