Does anyone have an opinion on whether UK would be better trying to renegotiate an EU-wide trade deal, or do many smaller deals? The gung-ho side of me says divide and conquer with individual deals, but I'm sitting here just looking at a single supply agreement on my desk and that bugger is complicated enough, I just don't see we have the resources to do something 50,000 times as complicated

Not sure what I've 'missed' Angry. Accept that there have been many concerns voiced about immigration but don't think it can be denied that the major motivation behind the Referendum was Cameron's desire to steal Farage's thunder and appease the Tory rebels during the build up to the 2015 election. Always a terrible and unecessary decision imo.

Strange though, that while those who support 'Remain' stand repeatedly accused of being 'whingers' and 'sore losers' all we are doing is arguing and debating, while the 'significant minority' who voted 'Leave' appear to be threatening 'riots' if their wishes are not heeded.

My pount was maybe not a 'clamour' but certainly a strong call for a referendum.
Do you suggest we just ignore the people?

The way the things are going and are likely to go I don't think there will be much trouble. The Brexiteers will be extremely grateful that there is someone on hand to rectify their big mistake.

Still I'll say it- all the above is a side show to the core issue.
The United States of Europe.
It's the plan/goal/mission. Stay in and this is what you want. No escape clause, no deals, no avoidance.
For me the price is too high.
Bring back the common market. That's what we signed up for, none of this political ****.

Things such as immigration, money drain are side shows of the root of the evil and just a symptom.

You want a USE, that is what you will get more of-
immigration/taxes/fees to the EU/Political power drain/non democracy.
The evils of the USSR with more pomp.

A well intentioned parable for the Brexiteers.

Fifteen people set off on a hike led by one guy who thinks he knows the way...let's call him David.
After a while it becomes clear that David is a little unsure. Six of the group, including three particularly vociferous ones, start shouting at David and telling him he's going the wrong way. Five, including David, say 'no, we still think this is the right way, let's carry on', while the other four haven't got a clue, just want to get to the pub and are quite happy to be led by whoever will get them there.
Being 'democratic' they have a quick vote and decide, by the tiniest of majorities, to change course and follow the route suggested by the six disgruntled ones especially when the new 'leader' promises that the pub is just over the next hill where the drinks will be 'on him'.
After a while it becomes obvious that the new route is no better. In fact they seem to be getting further and further away from their intended target. They're soon running low on water, there is no sign of any pub and what use is the promise of a free drink if there's no where to get one?

At this point they have a choice.
a) Carry on following the path suggested by those that shouted loudest, even though conditions are getting harder and the intended destination seems to be getting further and further away.
b) Go back to the last place they actually knew where they were and work the route out properly.
c) Storm off in different directions with the original leader saying 'I'm never walking with you lot again'. The replacement leader saying 'I've done all I can, nobody takes any notice of me anyway' and the other two vociferous ones having a vicious scrap while the rest, who suddenly realise that no one actually knew more than them in the first place, look on saying, 'wtf do we do now'?

As a country we seem to be following path c. Personally I'd go for plan b. Given the evidence of the last twelve days, what would you Brexiteers chose?

I have more faith that we can continue along a) and there will be pub further down the road, in fact it won't be a pub it'll be a big ****-off spa resort with complimentary hot wax massages and them little white slippers. The reason I think this, continuing your parable, is that there was another bunch of people who were shadowing your bunch, and they'd considered ALL the possible routes 'just in case' before they set out. If you want a real-world name for one of those fellahs try Mark Carney.

I think it might Andy, but if it doesn't I'd love you to be right and admire your optimism although I fear it might be 'blind faith'. (Now they were a fine band).

Path B leads to a wooden bridge, which in the 1st place was a good idea, but is now worn down and riddled with woodworm. Path A leads to unknown territory, but the opportunity to carve a new and better route, without being confined to what has been walked for the last 30 years.

A significant section Dave's supporters, rather than accept the groups decision, resort to hurling patronising abuse to the new group before they even begin down path A, and complain about every stinger nettle they have to avoid on the new path.
