You’re right Andrew...the Tory council only quoted the local government site which blamed Brexit...but, about four weeks on, this latest info came from the BBC. Still you and Tricky probably know best and will continue to absolve Brexit of any responsibility for anything at all damaging.

Sorry RA, you conveniently left off #3 Probably the worst as its been going on for years.Originally posted by ramAnag View PostQuite right Tricky, there is a shortage of HGV drivers throughout Europe, however we have been harder hit in the UK and the two principle reasons given are 1) the number of HGV drivers retiring and 2) Brexit.
Wages/contractual conditions. Seeing as we were under the blessed EU protection, it never stopped British drivers packing it in, by the droves.
Why would anyone work for reduced pay/longer hours/treated like dirt, just because Poles and Romanians thought it was bonanza time?
Your own bible tells you this as well.

I didn’t ‘leave anything off’, Tricky. I fully accept that there are other contributory factors, from Covid to wages, but the two predominant reasons in the BBC report I read were the two I cited.Originally posted by Trickytreesreds View PostSorry RA, you conveniently left off #3 Probably the worst as its been going on for years.

Anecdotally speaking...our local refuse collection is the worst, by far, that I have ever known in 42 years, and our local supermarket delivery driver has warned that the shelves are becoming increasingly bare and it isn’t likely to improve any time soon.
The reason given in both instances is a shortage of HGV drivers. If you and AF want to believe that any correlation between the aforementioned shortage and Brexit is entirely coincidental that’s up to you.

Ok I'll amend that. The "BBC" conveniently left/leave it off as it doesn't suit their rhetoric either.Originally posted by ramAnag View PostI didn’t ‘leave anything off’, Tricky. 1. easy to blame brexit to cover up their crap management at the council
2. Gives the BBC click bait
3. Keeps the remain gas lit.
And to think, us "leavers" are supposed to be the easiest led

The BBC offered a number of factors but the two predominant ones were as stated...
...and yes...you were and are the ‘easiest (mis)led’...as you continue to prove by repeatedly going into denial whenever Brexit is blamed for anything.

Someone hold my pint................................
THE BBC & YOUR COUNCIL said---------------
Which part of this load of bollox don't you understand?
No sunshine, you BELIEVE IT, BECAUSE YOU WANT TO.
It has been pointed out over many years why. Brexit may be the last straw, but that drain has been going on for a long time and the result WAS BREXIT.

One last time...is there a huge shortage of HGV drivers in the UK? Y/N
Is that shortage having a negative impact on our country? Y/N
Is it a just a complete coincidence that this shortage has happened since Brexit? Y/N
Have I ever suggested that this shortage is entirely down to Brexit? Y/N
Go figure...I’ve got better things to do.

I’m afraid you have rA, that has been my single issue on this all along, you need to go back and check your very first post on this. I’m not making an anti rA or pro anything point here other than, in general, anyone with a leaning/agenda is bound to have both conscious and unconscious biases which occasionally come to the surfaceOriginally posted by ramAnag View PostHave I ever suggested that this shortage is entirely down to Brexit?

Can’t be bothered to track back, AF. From memory the word I quoted was ‘overwhelmingly’ which is quite different from ‘entirely’.
IF I used the word ‘entirely’ I was wrong. Seeing as you’re so certain I’ll leave it to you to tell me where I blamed the HGV driver shortage ‘entirely’ on Brexit.

Sorry rA, 21st July you described the driver shortage as being caused ‘entirely’ by Brexit. You used the word ‘overwhelmingly’ elsewhere. This most defo isn’t a dig at you rA, it was always an effort to point out the seemingly perpetual, subconscious or conscious, and from all angles, colouration and invention of data which supports particular ‘stances’. I’m watching lots of BBC World this week and they’ve just reported a completely tosh statistic which Cynic me fact checked as wrong in about a minute but which millions will take as Gospel. The power of the media…Originally posted by ramAnag View PostCan’t be bothered to track back, AF. From memory the word I quoted was ‘overwhelmingly’ which is quite different from ‘entirely’.

I did...you’re right...and I stand corrected on my use of the word ‘entirely’. The rest I stand by...entirely.Originally posted by Andy_Faber View PostSorry rA, 21st July you described the driver shortage as being caused ‘entirely’ by Brexit.
