You really must get out more Swale. That bus slogan was an example, not a promise. Covid has put the kybosh on that even if it had been a promise. Billions spaffed up the wall on the test and trace app that never worked, billions more on PPE that either never appeared or, when it did, was unfit for use. Basically, the NIC increase is something that could have been done with a far lower increase, if every cabinet from the past 60 years had had the common sense to do what just about everybody knew was coming, make provision for when the baby boomers all hit pensionable age and the problems that would cause. They never did because they knew it would lead to them losing seats. All looking after themselves rather than the country.

Tricky...you need to listen to Jeffrey Donaldson this morning rather than banging on about Swale and Barnier. He’s justifiably critical of the EU’s behaviour but, somewhat ironically given Arlene Foster’s stance over Brexit, he also talks of how Northern Ireland’s future was sacrificed on the altar of another populist slogan, ‘let’s get Brexit done!’

Worryingly? It’s what happens when common sense is applied to a situation which has an ultimate ‘endgame’ which everyone needs to, but no one wants to, recognise.

Frankly, imo, science has placed far too much emphasis on extending life, but, crucially, not necessarily on an attendant quality of life...and religion has screwed the rest up.

Personally, and as with most on here this could happen any time from this afternoon to 25 years time, if and when the time arrives for me to need feeding and toileting I’d rather take a pill and slip away peacefully. There’s probably some politician/accountant somewhere currently considering what the charge should be.

2. JD is right. Personally I have and still do blame May, for that awful Quisling agreement she signed to set it up. Not defending Johnson with what he signed. I personally would rather we had stuck to the WTO terms than give in to it.
But I will go on about Barnier and the EU, using it as a weapon, as that is what they have/still do.
It's a sensitive issue in the UK and they have no right to stoke that fire.
Amazing how they can do this with UK /Irish relations, yet Merkels succesor Armin Laschet, wants the UK back in the EU army plan, despite Brexit. Who's taking the piss out of who here?

But even then the difficulties with the protocol are largely down to the UK not doing what they said they would do (like have a functioning IT system) and its the UK government using the protocol to try and screw concessions out of the EU, which were never on offer.

Jeez, the EU have actually bent over backwards to accommodate the UK, they could in theory be taking legal action against the UK for breach of international law now, but are holding off in an attempt to reach an agreement.

The comments are a more extreme version of actual EU policy. Politicians of all hues have accepted that freedom of movement inside Europe requires the tightening of restrictions against non-Europeans. “Fortress Europe” is the price of Schengen. If you'd actually informed yourself about this issue, then you would perhaps of noticed that the Danes have a similar attitude and of course the Hungarians are right up there with their actions.

So no for your information he isn't thinking of taking France out of the EU, he is in fact echoing Eu Policy but in a more extreme fashion to position himself right of centre and look to take votes from the far right Front National (as the Tories did in the UK with UKIP)
