Back on the bloodsports issue, it would appear that a number of local communities took a step further than us keyboard warriors and attended their local ?drag acts? in support in big numbers over recent days. Just an observation

Surely you have to admit it's hypocritical of the likes of Farage to criticise starmer but put Lucy Connolly on a pedestal.
Don't get the partisan comment, I haven't defended anyone's comments on him.

Don’t really get your point. It’s Trail hunting, because it is suspected to be an alleged smokescreen for more conventional and already illegal hunting - not Drag hunting - that the Government are targeting isn’t it?Originally posted by Andy_Faber View PostBack on the bloodsports issue, it would appear that a number of local communities took a step further than us keyboard warriors and attended their local ?drag acts? in support in big numbers over recent days. Also don’t understand the ‘keyboard warrior’ reference. This is an an online forum for argument/debate/discussion. No one is making threats or playing the big ‘I am’ that I’m aware of. People are just putting forward and exchanging their views and opinions.
That’s also just an observation btw.Last edited by ramAnag; 28-12-2025, 09:12 PM.

Not sure thats the issue. It was started by tricky regarding Starmers endorsement of him. But if I knew any of my neighbours had posted extreme views it would be disturbing yedOriginally posted by Andy_Faber View PostSorry didn?t put it very well. yes tricky started it from a political angle but he always does, and the responses one way or another were politically slanted, which they usually are. I was interested from a purely non political POV, which I doubt I'd get from anyone but you. You've also expressed concern that those you come into contact with are increasingly open about expressing 'isms', my old neighbours were the same (at a time when my household contained ethnic family members), so where would you/we/anyone draw the line and what action is possible?Originally posted by SithHappens View PostNot sure thats the issue. Its a challenge isn't it. For all I know my neighbours who seem perfectly nice people could be posting similar comments online along the lines of Connolly.Originally posted by Andy_Faber View Postyes tricky started it from a political angle but he always does, and the responses one way or another were politically slanted, which they usually are. Rumour has it previous neighbours moved because they heard foreign people where moving into a nearby property but I have no evidence other than hearsay.
But yes, this person has openly expressed racist views so he isn't really someone id ne happy coming into contact with if I can help it.

Sith "Rumour has it previous neighbours moved because they heard foreign people where moving into a nearby property but I have no evidence other than hearsay"
And would it be a problem if it were true? If people want to do that, let them. It's their money they are throwing away in dealing with their own prejudices. The incoming "foreigners" would likely be pleased they were leaving the area as well. A win-win all round

Its a tricky one because prejudice is eveywhere, my own view is its got no better in my lifetime just a pre-internet/social media period where it was less overtOriginally posted by SithHappens View PostIts a challenge isn't it. It’s certainly got better in certain situations, not least football grounds. Back in the seventies and eighties there was plenty of overt racism including throwing bananas at black players.Originally posted by Andy_Faber View PostIts a tricky one because prejudice is eveywhere, my own view is its got no better in my lifetime just a pre-internet/social media period where it was less overt
The better they were - think John Barnes, Cyrille Regis and Laurie Cunningham - the more enraged ignorant supporters appeared to become and comments about w*gs, n*g nogs and black b@stards etc were relatively commonplace.
I don’t think that’s the case now and personally I can only recall hearing a couple of racist comments at football grounds in the last decade or more, but it’s alarming that you feel the internet and social media may have played such a part in the re-emergence of such prejudice, something I fear you may well be right about.Last edited by ramAnag; 29-12-2025, 03:45 PM.

Social media has let many genies out of many bottles, some good, some bad. Agreed, and it’s cowardly too because this is where the keyboard warriors are found, those who make unacceptable comments online but wouldn’t dream of being so outspoken in real life without the support of like minded others.Originally posted by Andy_Faber View PostSocial media has let many genies out of many bottles, some good, some bad. It’s also, and this isn’t a dig, why, imo, it’s so important for decent (i.e. those not given to such prejudice) folk to stand up to examples of such behaviour, call it out and never indulge in casual racism.

That also applies to mysogyny, IMO. If I hear it, I call it out.Originally posted by ramAnag View PostAgreed, and it’s cowardly too because this is where the keyboard warriors are found, those who make unacceptable comments online but wouldn’t dream of being so outspoken in real life without the support of like minded others.

i'd suggest that the bad outweighs the good many times over - creating a generation of self obsessed zombies who cannot do anything without a phone to hand to record such amazing events as seeing a pair of shoes or eating breakfast so as to share such heroics with everyone else who, rather curiously, seem fascinated by it. Technology that can turn non entities into "influencers" as a profession (contributing even less to society than an illegal migrant) should be outlawed.Originally posted by Andy_Faber View PostSocial media has let many genies out of many bottles, some good, some bad.
