Tend to agree, without Stokes we become more vulnerable. India deserved a share of the spoils so we move on to Aussie land with much to ponder.

So now we have no cricket for a month, despite it being middle of summer. Ridiculous

20/20, the 100 and other one day bashes aren't cricket then?

100 certainly isn't, the 20-20 is almost over and the 50 over tournament has had all the best players stripped away by 100 - eg Surrey lose 15 players to ot

I suspect you sound like certain old fuddy duddies in the 1960’s when one day cricket was introduced (The Cavaliers?) as a commercial venture.
Tbf, I share many of your reservations about the 100 but times change and although I could happily sit alongside you grumbling about the daft kits, weird allegiances and intrusive ‘music’ etc, if you ignore that it IS cricket and some of it is beneficial to the longer game. Fielding has improved immeasurably as has the ability to score quickly. Some just maybe need to recognise that capability (to score quickly) doesn’t equate to it being compulsory.

I would contend that T20 had led to the improvement in fielding and scoring rate rather than the 100 which has only been around a few years. The fact that no other nation has adopted the format also speaks volumes.

My objection to the 100 is based on being disenfranchised as a supporter - as a Gloucestershire fan there is no one to support : much the same for Derbyshire fans I imagine. Supporting the local rivals franchise - Glamorgan or Notts is anathema.

The 100 is a turd in frilly knickers!

You can't polish a turd, but you can... dress it up as a French maid? I worry about you, Mac.

As someone who played in the Burton and South Derbyshire midweek League, back in the 80s, a 20 over a side competition which we won 4 times and did the League and Cup double 3 years, the 20 over thrash is cricket. Our opinions differ. No problem.

Tbf MA I'm being totally selfish in that whilst I enjoyed all types of cricket in my playing days as I now only watch then as a spectacle only the test arena hits the spot with me. I simply find all other versions of no interest, I fact totally boring.
Selfish old git in other words!

I'm just wallowing in the great memories of winning and the beers after. Our biggest competitors were a Pakistani side who were generally runners up in the League and losing cup finalists. The one Cup we lost was to them. One League game we batted first and rattled up over 300. They went for it and hit the winning run with 2 balls to spare. Only game we lost that season, they lost 2.

Oh well. As we are speaking of our past exploits I can say I have lifted 2 trophies at Lords. Once as captain
