What a pathetic figure Boris Johnson was tonight. So nobody told him he was breaking the rules he himself made and told us to follow? He has reverted to his default mode of blatantly lying. It's his only hope - he knows he's lying, his party know he's lying, but he thinks that lying to the electorate got him into the top job, so he thinks that hopefully there are enough thick f@ckers out there to bail him out.

According to the ONS as of yesterday only 17,500 have died FROM covid in the UK since the start, with a big portion of those being over 65, maybe this is why Boris was not afraid to have his parties.

Don't often comment on this thread but I have been consistently surprised by how many seemingly clever and sensible people ( including many members of my own family) believe the hype peddled about COVID stats. Anyone who listens to the Joe Rogan interviews will know how much money hospitals in the USA can get for reporting a death as linked to COVID ( $30,000 US per death) and then he was hounded out by various 'experts' despite almost all the information being factual and impartial. I took one of my kids to the doctors yesterday and the doctor ( who I previously respected but now don't) offered me a booster 4 times and it wasn't even my appointment. I politely declined the first time but as he persevered ( as he is paid around $60 per booster) I pointed out that I had recently had COVID and as such was developing natural antibodies had the first 2 jabs and as the booster a) doesn't really give me much benefit versus risk in terms of Omicron and only lasts a few months and b) will no doubt make me feel like crap again like the first 2 and having just had covid I don't really want to feel like that again. Didn't stop him asking 2 more times. Anyone who thinks the COVID response isn't about money needs to re-educate themselves.Originally posted by macstop View PostAccording to the ONS as of yesterday only 17,500 have died FROM covid in the UK since the start, with a big portion of those being over 65, maybe this is why Boris was not afraid to have his parties.

And why not ? it was the thick ****ers that ignored all the warning signs and elected him in the first place. Sacked several times for lying, hiding in a fridge to avoid being questioned, avoiding all TV appearances where possible to avoid being questioned , the false claims on the side of the big red bus ( by the way , false claims means lies!) . Then more lies to cover up the murder of people in care homes and murdering front line workers depriving them of PPE so his chums could set up PPE supply companies to get big fat contractsOriginally posted by Elite_Pie View PostWhat a pathetic figure Boris Johnson was tonight. Then the big fat lie about his oven ready getting Brexit done deal, well I think they are still in discussions about Northern Ireland so in reality its still not done.Just a micro snapshot amongst the catalogue of lies he has spouted and the thick ****ers have bought ! his latest lie is small fry in comparison to the whoppers he's thrown at the public and they "just cant get enough" to quote Depeche Mode.
once the illusion of the inquiry is complete and everyone is cleared normal service will be resumed and the public will lap up every lie and false hood fed to them !
it makes you proud to be British !

Joe Rogan! college dropout making $$$millions off selling you medical opinions clearly deserves to profit from covid more than hospitals!
he's laughing at you all the way to the bank, mate xd
eta: personally I think all health care should be universally free. for profit healthcare throws up all sorts of ethical problems like this. still rather get my info from someone who's business isn't sloshing controversy around.Last edited by Maggie's Farm; 19-01-2022, 01:38 AM.

My daughters fine she had an infected finger. Needed lancing. Thanks for the concern. I don't disagree about free health care and of course you are free to diss Rogans guests where the info came from but its fact. I don't think facts represent controversy in this case. They are also reported in plenty of non Rogan related web pages etc.Originally posted by Maggie's Farm View Posthope your son's ok.

sorry, daughter. infected fingers can be very painful! good luck to her.
JR can be entertaining, enjoyed his Mike Tyson one, the Sam Harris one, and some of his Kevin Hart ones for example. Ben Shapiro and Alex Jones less so. I think part of the problem is Rogan's obvious political and personal positioning (he really wants to be outside the tent cuz it's kool, but also to insert to himself into the debate, cuz that's where the money is), but he doesn't have enough medical understanding to sort out the snakeoilers from the educated non-partisans, and so everyone just gets to offload without pushback (unless you're Sanjay Gupta!).
The more controversial his show is, the more money he makes and that's his schtick. I don't think the format makes for reliable data and would rather believe the various country's health officers, but maybe I'm wrong. Is there a particular expert from his show you're recommending?

Good post. I too think his podcasts (and similar ones like Lex Fridman's, which is slightly more intellectually rigorous) are entertaining, but in the sense of entertaining how talking **** with blokes in a bar is entertaining. That's not to say that everything said on there should be disregarded - often what is said there is partially true or true with caveats. In the case of the CNN health editor you mentioned, I thought they actually had a very good discussion and Rogan had him bang to rights about how CNN effectively defamed him by saying he was taking horse deforme and putting a filter on his video to make him look weird and ill.Originally posted by Maggie's Farm View Postsorry, daughter. infected fingers can be very painful! good luck to her.

I also agree that he doesn't push back too much against his guests, which is kind of what makes his interview style successful, because his guests feel free to express themselves at length, but if he has a lot more guests with one point of view than the opposite point of view you can end up thinking it's more of a slam duck than it really is.
I also think his politics have shifted recently, from when he was a pro-Sanders Democrat in LA, to living in Austin, Texas where he has taken on board a lot of the prevailing views.
Anyway I think the claim QP is referring to was made by the guy who was involved in the development of MRNA technology. I haven't seen the episode or checked his claim out, but would be interested to know if it is true.

That is interesting, but to evaluate it properly it would be helpful to know what they mean by having only Covid, and to make the comparison equally, how many people die in a bad flu season from flu only.Originally posted by macstop View PostAccording to the ONS as of yesterday only 17,500 have died FROM covid in the UK since the start, with a big portion of those being over 65, maybe this is why Boris was not afraid to have his parties.

The year-on-year excess death statistics were quite useful for this, but I haven't come across any for a while now.

I have not gone into the figures in detail because I can't be bothered with trying to debunk attempted conspiracy theories. Some quick searching brings up:Originally posted by drillerpie View PostThat is interesting, but to evaluate it properly it would be helpful to know what they mean by having only Covid, and to make the comparison equally, how many people die in a bad flu season from flu only.
The year-on-year excess death statistics were quite useful for this, but I haven't come across any for a while now.
Estimates suggest the total number of global deaths attributable to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 is at least 3 million, representing 1.2 million more deaths than officially reported.
More people die in the winter than the summer. We present data by sex, age, region, cause of death and place of death.
If you've got time you'll know doubt be able to dig deeper.
A few points:
Excess deaths will be skewed by actions taken by individual countries. Those that have taken draconian actions such as Australia will not only have a smaller impact due to covid but by limiting activity will have reduced deaths from many causes whether other transmissible diseases, road accidents, or being eaten by sharks.
Excess death and Covid reporting in countries which do not have an infrastructure will be sketchy at best but certainly look unhealthy.
The headline UK figures are predominantly concerned with the load on the NHS. Our whole policy has been dictated about the NHS's ability to cope.
A true excess deaths figure would have be available if:
1) No-one took any special action over Covid
2) Vaccines hadn't been rolled out
3) Lockdowns and restrictions hadn't been put in place
We then would have had scenes as we saw in Italy in the early stages with people dying in queues trying to get into hospitals which in any event were ill-equipped.
As it is now most first world countries have a good percentage of the population vaccinated, intensive care ventilators available, much knowledge on other effective treatments as well as would appear a level of herd immunity growing. That some individuals have been able to escape the worst ravages of this disease is lucky for them. For those of you who would be content to say "well he was over 60" you could have faced an empty Pavis and I say go fluck yourself and hope a red-back bites your bum.
