You cant separate race either from the case itself or the reaction to it. If you?re trying to pretend there would be so many or any objections to her sentence if Connolly was a Muslim than I would not only disagree I would say youre not dealing in reality. Not for the first time.Originally posted by forwardmagpie View PostThanks explaining the concept BFP it is much appreciated although we know that already., it was racist and a very stupid post.
However where you threw the race card in was not about Lucy Connolly but against people who think her sentence was too severe.
As Elite quoted, the article I posted contains a clear explanation as to why she received the sentence she did. Maybe read and understand it and your opinions may just become a little bit more informed. From what you post on here informed reading doesnt appear to be something you do very much of, unfortunately.

It is, of course, a governmental decision. Who else's would it be?Originally posted by Med Pie View PostThat is purely a governmental decision and many people think they should be involved in protecting our shoreline.
Personally I think defending against a few rubber boats using military vessels and their accompanying expensively-trained personnel would be a massive (and massively expensive) example of overkill (for want of a better word!). Far better to beef up Border Force and equip, train and man it better, with stronger powers to boot IMO.

Thanks BFP I have probably read far more than you on this topic and from many sources and then I have made my own opinion.Originally posted by BigFatPie View PostYou cant separate race either from the case itself or the reaction to it. As to your first point I would also say I think both Ricky Jones and Liam O?Hanna should be treated sensibly.
I do not believe Lucy Connolly is a danger to society and I also think there is zero chance of her reoffending so I cannot see much point in such a long sentence.
During your in depth investigation of her case did you read much about the defendant?
I however don?t need to resort to the comments you seem to like as I believe everybody's opinions are valid.

I completely agree that she offers little threat to anyone and a jail sentence of that length does not feel like it protects society at all. That said, given her actions she has fallen foul of the law of the land and has been well advised to get the most lenient sentence possible.Originally posted by forwardmagpie View PostThanks BFP I have probably read far more than you on this topic and from many sources and then I have made my own opinion.

There are thousands of people incarcerated in this country that offer very little threat to any of us if they were to walk the streets. We need a much larger conversation about that and how the law works surrounding sentencing. Picking and choosing individuals based upon our own political beliefs does not do any of us any good.

You can say that about judges too who were undoubtedly, influenced by the noise coming out of Downing Street during these events with the PM labeling people criminals without even having had a court case.Originally posted by Mapperleypie View PostI completely agree that she offers little threat to anyone and a jail sentence of that length does not feel like it protects society at all. I don't think this is worth starting another thread, but has anyone else noticed how all the early reports regarding the idiot that drove into the Liverpool fans, that he is a 'white male'?
I'm not sure, but with other events that have happened previously where people have been killed or injured, did the Police initially refer to the suspect's colour?

Probably not but I think it makes a lot of sense to do so and remove doubt before the usual stirrers make convenient assumptions on social media.Originally posted by Lullapie View PostI don't think this is worth starting another thread, but has anyone else noticed how all the early reports regarding the idiot that drove into the Liverpool fans, that he is a 'white male'?

Even so they were too late for that.Originally posted by SwalePie View PostProbably not but I think it makes a lot of sense to do so and remove doubt before the usual stirrers make convenient assumptions on social media.
Lessons have clearly been learned... the question is what happens if and when the next attack by someone who isn't a white male happens.

I think they did this before the conspiracy theorists on social media start stirring things up with fake news and trying to blame some innocent asylum seeker for it. And who can blame them after recent episodes.Originally posted by Lullapie View PostI don't think this is worth starting another thread, but has anyone else noticed how all the early reports regarding the idiot that drove into the Liverpool fans, that he is a 'white male'?

we now know his ethnicity and nationality but how do we know he isn't a convert to Islam?
I very nearly posted but knew what response to expect form certain parties here, twice in the article it emphasized 'white, British, male'.Last edited by Med Pie; 27-05-2025, 06:33 AM.

I guess this dreadful incident will put paid to any aspirations of removing the barriers on Trent Bridge: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c24956588gyo
As weaponising motor vehicles is becoming increasingly common maybe the Liverpool incident was foreseeable, though I don't know how it can be stopped.
This will leave a scar on such a joyous moment for the club. Sympathies to all those hurt and affected.

Now in Scotland, another attempt to cover the facts with accusations of racism.
If it is a matter of opinion, that Sarwar "will prioritise the Pakistani community". how is that racist? Especially in light of various, recent examples of ethnic minority (majority locally in an increasing, number of places) MP's or councilors, having questionable priorities when it comes to their constituents?
This is yet another example of lazy, desperate, cancellation tactics using the blanket allegation of racism, to stifle the voice and likely success of others.Last edited by Med Pie; 27-05-2025, 07:14 AM.

Having watched a bunch of different footage, including what appears to be the start of it, it looks like it's an impatient brain dead idiot was initially attempting to drive through an area where he clearly shouldn't, the crowd understandably get pissed off with him, somebody gets bumped into, one or two then start hitting the car, then somebody loses it and puts his back window in, driver panics and goes into fight or flight mode, puts his foot down, people get trapped under the car causing it to swerve into even more people and then you've got at least one person shouting "killl him kill him" before the coppers wade in. Very fortunate nobody was killed and that the police got to the vehicle before the crowd dragged him out. Can't blame them or anybody else for thinking it was a terror attack, but at this stage it seems the police are correct in saying it wasn't.Originally posted by Med Pie View PostNever afaik,
