This.Originally posted by jackal2 View PostI'm afraid you're right.
Boris' sense of direction went out of the door with Dominic Cummings and he's been on a slippery slope ever since. In politics and especially at the head of government, if you don't have a strong ideology and a clear idea of what you're trying to achieve, then it's only a matter of time before you come unstuck. You might be able to wing it for a while if you have a political advisor or second-in-command with those robust attributes, but really the leadership has to come from the leader.
You would think it should be obvious, but the starting point for any party leader/PM is to only promote and advocate policies you actually believe in and live by yourself, then whatever else happens in an unpredictable world, at least you won't be accused of hypocrisy.
Both parties could do with going back a couple of generations to 'old school' politicians who actually have some idea what they stand for (apart from furthering their own careers) and have the gravitas and experience to stay on course. Sadly, there aren't too many left!

So he thought it was a work event. Even though the booze was flowing. Even though he took his wife.Originally posted by PedroTheFisherman66 View PostExpect a lie that puts Barnard castle and driving to test my eyes out to shame.Buying time with the investigation excuse will enable them to come up with a whopper of untold proportions! The guy has been a joke for many years. For him to become the political leader of a country shows how bad the system isOriginally posted by Elite_Pie View PostSo he thought it was a work event. Even though the booze was flowing. Even though he took his wife.

It's not the system, Salty, the system is devised by the people. This country has completely lost its way in the world. Those positive British/ English characteristics that made me proud to be an Englishman are no longer in evidence. High on the list is 'my word is my bond'. This No 10 clown has been a liar for years. Study his family background especially his father.Originally posted by SaltySeaDog View PostThe guy has been a joke for many years. I saw a vox pop on today's news when a matronly lady said ' I know he's not perfect but I still like him'. A poetry club I attend regularly has a lady of similar age who says the same thing. To people like that, principles like honesty and integrity don't matter if you smile a lot and pretend you like everyone except those nasty socialists.
Of course, he is dead in the water. The white suits will arrive shortly and whisk him away. AS with Trump, you can keep going until your own party turns on you.

I caught the end of a radio phone in the other day where listeners had to answer some of the questions thrown at folk wanting to become British Citizens. "What characteristic do other countries see as typifies the British person" was the question. Apparently the answer is "to be able to laugh at oneself". Go figure what happened to the characteristics you cherished.Originally posted by sidders View PostIt's not the system, Salty, the system is devised by the people. That wasn't THE answer, Old, it was one of the answers and I wouldn't argue with it.Originally posted by Old_pie View PostI caught the end of a radio phone in the other day where listeners had to answer some of the questions thrown at folk wanting to become British Citizens. If the rank and file Tories don’t bring about his downfall, hopefully the voting public will. His ‘excuse’ was an insult to the intelligence of even the dimmest person. If he really thought it was a work event, why didn’t he send everyone home when he saw they were drinking while at work? When I worked, bringing or drinking alcohol on company premises was classed as gross misconduct, punishable by instant dismissal. I can’t drive after consuming alcohol because it is known to impair judgement, but it seems running the country is ok even if you’re pissed. Also, this party invitation went out to around 100 Tories. Didn’t just a single one of them have the decency to say “we can’t do this, it breaks our own rules”? Apparently not. The despicable scumbag at the top isn’t the only one who shat on us, this party was apparently attended by 30 to 40 others. Not one of them has come forward and admitted their guilt, not even one. This should be the subject of a police investigation and every one of them named and shamed and forced to resign.
As my mate TheBlackHorse often says, we need to clear the cesspit. This would be a bloody good start.

I agree with most of what has been said, I personally had an opinion that he was just there 'to get brexit done' and then we would have someone more credible on the world stage!
Well, forget the world stage, I am petitioning my MP, to submit a no conf letter.

mr blobby johnson's dragging the police down to tory level of cronyist morality too though, so... as you were: one rule for plebs and NHS workers, another for toffs
