Thatcher was known a the Iron Lady, a conviction politician. The French have dubbed Truss as the Iron Weathervane - will shift with the wind, or on a whim. A (wo)Man for All Seasons. I'd like to hope otherwise but I can't see it ending well. Seems to me that the party voters just got hooked on "lower taxes". Or as I think elite said some while back - couldn't see an Asian being elected. Maybe Labour should try levelling up and having a female and/or minority ethnic leader. I see Rayner wouldn't answer that question this morning.Originally posted by magpie_mania View PostThere is a huge rift to heal. Is she the right one to do it? Not sure myself.
Her body language yesterday wasn't brilliant - where was the word / handshake with Sunak? Instead she couldn't wait to get up to give her automated speech.
Today she meets the Queen, after previously speaking up that the monarchy should be abolished.
I really hope she succeeds but do feel that she often says whatever is best for her own advancement, and is not averse to a u-turn when it suits.
She obviously sees herself as the new Margaret Thatcher, but even though I disagreed with Thatcher in many ways, she is nowhere near at the moment.
Hold on to your safety belts folks! Oh sorry, none left.

I have thought long and hard about this. I don’t want this Tory administration. I want Bike shed Angie as PM, Diane Abbott as Chancellor, David Lammy as Foreign Secretary and Blair as an international advisor. How the hell could anything go wrong with these world renowned major politicians in charge, come on, you know it makes sense. Oh yes, and 3 bellies Thornberry as Health Secretary.

The prime minister says she will make sure people can get doctors' appointments and the NHS services they need. "We will put our health service on a firm footing," she said.
Cameron, May and Johnson said exactly the same. Truss will be another name to add to the list of Tory liars.

I thought it was ironic how she gave a list of how our great nation needs to be, effectively saying we are in a mess. Perhaps someone should tell her that they have had 12 years to do it, and that only a few hours earlier Boris had told us how great everything is! At least he had some warmth and charisma in his speech. Then again, if she can improve things, I won't really mind how automated her speeches.Originally posted by Elite_Pie View PostThe prime minister says she will make sure people can get doctors' appointments and the NHS services they need. Looking forward to how she is going to make sure we can all get doctor's appointments.
PMQ's should be interesting tomorrow.

Actually, Old Pie, it was I who said the Tories would never elect a practising Hindu as their leader, although Elite may well have gone along with it.Originally posted by Old_pie View PostThatcher was known a the Iron Lady, a conviction politician. Sunak was much the smarter and more worldly politician. As a public speaker, Truss is a wooden puppet and couldn't inspire a class of 5 year olds.

That's how I remember it, although when I said 'the Tories' I meant the (largely gammon) Tory membership who elected Truss. The Tory government MPs clearly favoured Sunak, but obviously not the rank and file members.Originally posted by sidders View PostActually, Old Pie, it was I who said the Tories would never elect a practising Hindu as their leader, although Elite may well have gone along with it.
