    On that note:

The UK now has a record number of billionaires with 177, according to the new Sunday Times Rich List.

That's up six from 2021 - and the combined wealth of the UK's billionaires stands at £653bn, up more than £55bn (9.4%) on the total wealth of the billionaires in last year's Rich List.

The London-based Hinduja brothers, Sri and Gopi, and family are the richest people in the UK with a £28bn fortune, which is up more than £11bn on last year.

It is the biggest fortune recorded in the 34 years of publication of the Rich List.

Overall, the richest 250 people in the UK this year are worth £710.723bn, compared to £658.089 billion in 2021, an 8% rise on last year.

It comes as typical UK households come under increased financial pressure from inflation, which struck a 40-year-high of 9% in April.

Meanwhile, Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty made the list for the first time, as their joint £730m fortune put them at number 222.

So Rishi and his wife only have £730 million, which doesn't even put them close to the top 200. It's blatantly obvious that the rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer.

No problem, let's blame those bloody scrounging immigrants instead!

With a country on its knees like ours struggling to see a doctor/dentist or get an operation or are trying to get somewhere to live. etc. it's no wonder ordinary folk complain.
So those 33,000 cost less than £100m per year in support. 24% of them fail their asylum claims - maybe the dubious Albanians you quote. The others are determined as genuine and go on to build lives and pay taxes in UK. If they earn minimum wages when they start working they will pay back their support and contribute to healthcare etc. as any other citizen. Mybe it is a one-child policy that you advocate ?

How much do you think dodgy PPE contracts and Test & Trace cost UK ?

      • I am not blaming immigrants I was trying to point out that when a country is having problems many people look for a scapegoat and unfortunately at the moment apart from blaming a useless government which we have immigration often gets the blame. This is not just a UK problem the Italians have elected a right wing government, Le Penn in France vastly increased her vote and Germany is having problems.
Sadly immigrants usually bear the brunt.

In that case, maybe those "ordinary folk" should look at whether it's the 33,000 are leeching the cash, or whether it goes a fair bit higher up.

          • Do you honestly think any government whether Labour, Tories, Lib dems Greens or who ever will stop those that are leeching cash? Because it has gone on for hundreds of years.

Yes, but the Tories are much better practiced at it...........

                Stop it? No.

                Limit it? Yes.

                • Where has this figure of 33,000 come from lol, there have been at times 1,000 crossing the channel a day this summer. Which would give you that figure in just over a month. Times this by 12 and you have over 250,000, given days when fewer crossed. Given they are all given free health care and accommodation are you telling me that doesn't contribute to the financial mess we are in. More of a problem is their religion, guaranteed to cause trouble. Oh I forgot to mention the hotels that are happily taking our cash through the government to house these illegal immigrants.
Again I will ask, do you not think had Labour been in power during covid, Labour MP's would have handed out the same juicy contracts for PPE etc. to their mates (probably the same people as who the Conservatives gave money to).

A total of 28,592 people have crossed the Channel so far this year, compared to 28,526 in 2021.

The number of people who have crossed the English Channel in small boats so far this year has now exceeded the total for the whole of 2021.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said 601 migrants made the crossing on Monday in 19 boats, bringing this year's total so far to 28,592 people.

In 2021, the total was 28,526 people.

Definitely not 12 years of chronic underfunding.

Whatever the real number is, it would be good to get figures on these two groups:

                        1. Immigrants who come here solely to sponge off our benefit system.
                        2. Immigrants who come here to work hard, contribute to our society, and repay us for the chance they've been given of making a better life.

I think you would be shocked at the results, especially if you compared them to the average Brit. The Sun will always give headlines to the scroungers, while totally ignoring that the other group are the vast majority, so I'm sure you would be happy to read what they want you to read.

I think you are missing the point, yes the vast majority of immigrants come here to work and for a better life and enrich our society but we would like to know where they come from and who they are. If the ones coming over on boats are genuine refugees escaping danger then that is much different to the boat loads of young men who just want to come here.
As a matter of interest now many immigrants do you think this small island of 66 million can take, 100,000, a million, 5 million the whole of Syria? Is their a limit or isn't there one? Genuine question.

I wonder what impact the following had from the 2008 BMA conference:

Delegates at the annual BMA conference voted by a narrow majority to restrict the number of places at medical schools to avoid “overproduction of doctors with limited career opportunities.” They also agreed on a complete ban on opening new medical schools.

And then 10+ years later proclaim it's the government's fault.

Union protectionism has for decades and more stunted this country.

Now alienating the one section of society that normally votes for them. Not even John Major was this bad with the electorate in 1997, Truss will take the Tories down to Lib Dem territory at this rate.
