    • As TheBlackHorse regularly says, we are finally draining the swamp.

May Johnson and Dorries rot in hell.

The leavers were taken in by Johnson's lies.

Brexit is an unmitigated disaster. Can anyone tell me the benefits?

Germans now have to show their passport upon arrival so are slower to the sunbeds at Butlins as a result. Thus leveling the playing field. I can't believe you missed that Elite.

My bad. I also forgot that we can now get a navy passport instead of a burgundy one.

Who cares about rocketing prices and the destruction of the NHS when you can get a navy passport?

              • We went from an important part of a big block to a tiny block no one wants anything to do with. Any leavers I speak to now get mad that they were lied to regarding things like the NHS. You just had to look into it for 10 minutes yourself to see that it was madness.

The country now, after Brexit, Covid and the Tories, is a complete mess. Going to take longer than one term for labour to begin to tackle it. Unfortunately, like others, Starmer isn't exactly my cup of tea but he couldn't do any worse than Bojo, Truss and Sunak.

We need a "verifed by NCM" tick:

UK shoppers are paying more for loo roll, butter and ketchup than some of our European neighbours, data suggests.

                    Furthermore:

The IMF — which said at the start of the year that it expected the British economy to fare worse than Russia's in 2023 — upgraded its outlook for the U.K. Tuesday. It now expects the U.K. economy to grow by 0.4 percent in 2023, an upgrade from the 0.3 percent contraction it predicted in April.
Happy for there to be discussion but let's try and base it, and update it, on facts please.

and you could pick 23 different items and get a completely different result! - you can make some stats do what you want them to.

I don't know what those 23 items were but in the real world that isn't true. I shop here every day and also shop online for my son in UK. That is NOT a true general reflection. It also needs to reflect incomes - higher in FR - and maybe take account of availability. We don't have veg shortages.

I have to say that on my return to the UK in March & April I was horrified at the state of the place. The roads WTF. There was massive pot holes on motorways! Expensive as well coming from me who lives in a very expensive country. Seems that the whole country is dominated by around 50 brands. A huge across the board decline. The heart and soul depleted.

Exactly the same sentiment here. Nothing seemed to work, quality of 'food' very poor, everything in a packet, services dire, litter everywhere. Seems like a race to the bottom in every area. Each time I return I feel less inclined to ever live there again. France has it's issues, bureaucracy, racisim, small-mindedness but there would be riots on the streets if it every became like UK now.

                              • Litter, it's everywhere, stop off at Blidworth woods with the dog on way and returning from work and fly tipping around there.
Just been up Symonds yat rock, look over at the beautiful view and there's a drink can and chocolate wrapper, same by the beach in Pembrokeshire last week, its sickening what this country has become.
