Many on here having been saying for years that Mr Stewart needs some help on football side,he`s even said himself that he was`nt really a "football man" when he took over,so the appoinment of McC fits the bill on both counts.
It will be interesting to see exactly how this new role pans out, many clubs up the pyramid have someone doing this type of job,but not too many in the 3rd and 4th divisions,so maybe we are ahead of the curve for once.
McC has said this is job he wants to do now,NOT a manager,I`m sure he knows exactly what he`s let himself in for, after all he`s been mates with TS for years, will be interesting the type of manager/head coach we get,not everybody would want the job at this level with someone above you loitering around !

Since we do not have a manager, perhaps he would like to do both jobs now, save time of having to step in later.

The trouble is Towner, this neglect has been going on for more than 10 years so the appointment of someone like McClaren is long overdue.
Not having a "football man" on the board is one of the principal reasons we are now back to square one.
Neil Warnock outlined what was needed to consolidate the club in the Championship in 2016 but his advice was ignored so to say we may be ahead of the curve by appointing a football man to sort out the mess now we are in League 2 is a bit rich in my opinion.

All I would say Mellow is that when Neil Warnock said whatever he did, we got lucky and ended up with Paul Warne the year afterwards. And, despite the initial relegation, look at the success he had, operating in whatever 'mess' Neil Warnock was referring to. So whilst you can put forward the argument that Tony Stewart 'ignored' what NW said to him, the broader context is that the club had some very successful years immediately afterwards. So you can kind of see where the inertia comes from.

I'm not disagreeing with you by the way, there's definitely been neglect and if the club had been a little more forward thinking at times, we may have been able to establish ourselves in the Championship - although not easy for a club of our size.

The fact that TS admitted he could have done with some help in football matters, and didn't really get any,is probably a failure on his part.
But I seem to remember him saying he sought advice from the likes of Steve Bruce, and maybe even McC when he needed it,so perhaps he thought that was all the help he needed.
Bear in mind, during the Stewart era we have been mostly successful apart from the last couple of years.
So now is the time he gets help, with hindsight maybe a little late, but find me any chairman who hasn't made mistakes ,let's hope this is the start of another upward curve on the roller coaster.

Phil Smith sponsored the first team! EMBARK ring any bells,! He has involvement with the ladies team! He was a great help in organising the game of the century. He pays for a directors box every year and is introducing new sponsors and potential investers free of charge.

But yes he is a free loader that has put over a million into the club!!!!

What are rest of us then like me who've paid well into the thousands over the years through the turnstiles not worthy have to bow in his presence. I'm not wealthy I bet my percentage of my income that goes into the club it's been more than his.

                  What a ridiculous post.

Why are you pointing the finger at a wealthy bloke who is trying to help. There's reasons a bigger percentage of your income has gone into the club over the years and I don't have to spell them out.

                  An uneducated know it all.

Not only does the football side of the club need a reset, so does the fanbase. You are absolutely part of the problem.

                  Grow up you stupid man.

Phil Smith and other club sponsors will have put more money into club than most of us will do in a lifetime.
I just hope he can get other big investors interested in us to really make a difference.

I haven't said you are not worthy.

The point is this. With the money he has spent and where he has spent it has gotten him close enough to TS that TS has trusted him to look through the running of the club and help improve the running of it.

I beleive that we are a long way from that investor than some. TS has limited vision for the football club. He took the club on and got something special to happen. He rebuilt it and made us all proud of it. He has given us more great times than bad times.

But you have to look back from where your journey as a Rotherham United fan started. These are some of the best years for mr. I have been a supporter and seen us in the old second division and saw us go back down. I saw some good football in the old third division but very little good football in the forth division. The Ronnie Years were great but we ended up back in the forth.

TS has not seen this drop before! Half of our regular fans have not experienced this drop before. The rise was built on momentum and frankly there is none and ther is not sign of any.

TS has no idea how to stop this slide!

Correction! TS does know how to stop the slide and is not willing to do it because he will have to spend his own money doing it. Why would any investor do that if the bloke in charge will not?

Never done hospitality cause seen who they invite as guests & they would never pay to watch us. All the time I've been watching us never met any board members. Said hi to TS a couple of times at the NYS & he's acknowledged me. Breck is the only ex player I've had odd chats with. He's genuine texted me back twice when I've paid my dues to the Rotherham hospice. That's how I like it just wait while it's official any news from the club.

Just remembered spoke to Paul Douglas when we were at the DV about seating there got no joy.

Summed it up perfectly Frog, the club is completely rudderless. If it was run right we would certainly not be where we are. There has never been a plan while we've been at the NYS.

May just be that their silence to those coming thru the turnstiles is just a tad annoying !!!
