Romared Match Thoughts AFC Wimbledon v Barnsley

I think this will be our toughest test so far , something tells me it will be a bruising physical contest on a tight ground that we may not be good enough to counter , I'd snatch your hands off for the draw .

I've a feeling Wimbledon may be the new Wycombe Wanderers of a few years ago who were a real shytehouse of a team but ultimately won games .

I'm only going on the League Two Play Off Final that I watched Wimbledon win last May so I maybe wrong .

Wimbledon don't score or concede many goals, the 2 they have lost this season have been to Luton & Cardiff both with late, late goals.
I think if we score early we should add to that later on as it appears that they tire towards the end of games!
We do concede goals, but given we are unbeaten and kept a 1st clean sheet since February we should be pretty high on confidence, on top of that we are properly battling this season, so should manage any shythousery we'll, especially with our little tiger Kelly in Midfield?
I'm sticking to my 1-3 prediction as we have pace, trickery and goals in the team, and their one will come from a defensive mistake which happens in most games! DKD is due a goal as well.

First goal definitely crucial today and if we concede it we may have a difficult afternoon .

I take the point we've shown some real battling qualities and resolve so far this season which we are going to need this afternoon .

I'm always looking at passing tests and showing our credentials and this is one of those games this afternoon in my opinion .

I'm not suggesting Wimbledon are a team who have superior players to ourselves but they are well organised , work extremely hard and are pretty physical and we have to match that in order for our better quality to come in to play .

It's a real awkward one is this .

I always fancy us on the road but I have to agree with the chain of thought that todays contest will be a tough tight affair, I always fancy us to score but our defence is suspect at the best of times , I do think we will edge it but none of the three results possible would surprise me , we will see .

Well I thought it just wasn't our day today , the finishing was dreadful and we looked very suspect at the back , suspect at the back wouldn't have revealed itself so much had we taken our chances mind .

However as I've often pointed out if you have to score 3 goals every week to win games you arent going to be getting promoted from this league .

This afternoon was the classic example of what happens when you have one of those days in front of goal and defensively you arent too hot .

I thought our build up play was pretty decent to be honest on a positive note until the changes were made that is and then we really struggled from that point on .

One to forget to be honest .

I agree I thought the build up play was quite good today, it was one of those days where it just wouldn’t go in or the final pass was just not right!
I don’t know if anyone saw the elbow to Cooper’s face when he collected a wombles cross, but on another day, the ref sees that and he’s sent off, don’t understand why Cooper didn’t hit the ground like sack of sh1t? having said that the ref missed quite a few bad challenges, there was one on Connell and the ref had his back to it!!! And it nearly cost us a goal.
I like Josh Earl, but since he’s come back he is making bad decisions in every game, there is no way they should get that pass across for the first goal, but Josh was really weak there, I’m sick of him trying to play in and around our area, when he should just put it out or make a simple pass, rather than trying to tip toe through the middle of defence! And the amount of times he Just’s hoofs the ball forward to nobody and gives possession straight back to the opposition! Has he picked up bad habits from Mael or is it that he thinks he’s Pele?
Look we can’t win every game and we now have 2 home games coming to bounce back, but we really need a new central defender, preferably one with a right foot, the big sh1thouse in the wombles defence will do, who looked solid today!
Onwards and upwards, it’s early days, we have 10 points and are 3 off the top, not a bad start.

First off I thought Wimbledon deserved the points today , missed chances and poor defending cost us today , once again two left footers playing side by side in central defence did not work , they were both under par and suspect and to be honest they created our own problems , it was a good job Cooper was on top form or the score would have been a lot worse . The real disappointing aspect for me was the substitutions , none of them improved the team , Ogbetta was playing really well and was delivering quality into the box but that stopped when Ferrugia came on who frankly was awful , Russel had little effect and neither did Bland , I could go on but it was all about who was going to score first today, McGoldrick missed a sitter and two minutes later we concede and from then on Wimbledon grew in confidence and we were less effective but hey we move on and it is clear we need a couple of new faces to support both the front line and the rear guard before the window shuts, lets hope they back Conor .

Can?t really argue with the result. Although if McGoldrick scores that huge chance, game could?ve been totally different. Great save from their keeper. Our keeper pulled some really good saves off too.

If ever there was a game to show how far off being a solid, defensive side we are, this was it. Wimbledon were defending as unit and putting themselves in front of everything to block and stifles us. Even then, because of the attacking talent we have, we did still manage to create some good chances in fairness. We need a centre back in before the window shuts and it needs to be someone that can slot straight into the team from the off.

Rovrum in the cup on Tuesday is a game I would heavily rotate for. Give minutes to players that need it and rest our better players for the Huddersfield game. Although I have a feeling we may go fairly strong for the cup game in the hope that we win and then pull another glamorous third round tie. I guess we will see what Conor does.
