Sorry but not buying this out of position story.
He gives the ball away so easily, panics under pressure and because of that he often passes to a teammate with a man right on him. That's nothing to do with what position you're playing.
If he was decent he would have shown it consistently by now.

Again, watch St Johnstone in the Cup final. Their midfielders although not big name players, were receiving the ball in space, then taking a few seconds to decide on the BEST pass, not the FIRST pass. Night and day from what our midfield was doing most of last season.
