That's not true in my case, because there was lots to celebrate in the first half of my 50 years support. We played mainly in the top two divisions and that alone counts as a success for a club like Notts. The last half has been a steady decline with the odd bright spot, but I've had loads of good times along the way.
Yes as I said "our golden era" but unsurprisingly my earlier comment wasn't aimed solely at you it was a more universal statement.

If you are in your early 20s you have witnessed the Munto season only in terms of success. That's ya lot.

Early 30s the Munto season and the Big Sam title, so two genuinely enjoyable and undeniable great seasons (at the time).

Early 40s you are lucky enough to have seen back to back promotions under Warnock, visited the old Wembley multiple times and tasted top flight action for a season to add it the list.

If in your 50s/60s you've got the Sirrel success to rightly fondly remember and look back on.

If you are in your 70s its likely you can remember the 1960s that don't appear to be kind to NCFC supporters.

I feel for any Notts fans who didn't at least catch those magical seasons under Warnock and am envious of anyone who saw Sirrel at his very best.

Point being the future of this club, the younger fans, haven't known anything other than decline with 1 or 2 great seasons that's it. Maybe they are the ones who can adjust to NL far easier than the OAP aged fans who saw the glory days overachievement.

From me being aged 12 to 25, Notts average final position in the pyramid was 38th (18th in the Championship), today - since 1982/83 season - it is now 60th, which is 16th in tier 3.

You can all roughly work out how Notts have averaged out since you began attending from below.

The average final position in the pyramid since (and including) season......

    1949/50 - 55th
    1959/60 - 58th
    1969/70 - 55th
    1979/80 - 58th
    1989/90 - 65th
    1999/00 - 74th
    2009/10 - 74th
    2019/20 - 96th

The overall average from 1888/89 season to today is 43rd. At the end of 1994/95 it was 35th.
    Fword's is currently 23rd.

There are no positives to be taken from any of those stats...

It's certainly not an upward trend, but it shows I started supporting at a good time. The average position over my support is 55th, or mid-table in League 1, which many of us see as our 'natural' position. I had a really good start in 1970, but I don't expect a happy ending.

Hopefully Lawton's Bar is being refurbished rather than shut. I always drifted down there at half time, not to drink because I was driving but to catch up with the halftime scores on Skysports. I remember seeing Jimmy Sirrel in there a few times a while back, and when he ordered a coffee someone would usually say "do you want a whisky in that Jim?". His reply was always "Aye, go on then"!

He used to come in after the reserve game with his wife and have a drink and chat with us. He was a true gent..

I saw rubbish Notts teams in the 60s until Jimmy arrived, I then saw us climb from div. 4 to the now championship but didn't see the best years in the top league or any of our Wembley appearances. Started attending again in the mid 90s and watched ever since.

3 major incidents that effected Notts and put us on a downward spiral in recent years:
    1) Meindert Dijkstra's OG against Derby. 2) Sam Allardyce walking out when we were top of league 1. 3) Munto to being a con

Dijstra OG was a nightmare, but I don’t think there’s any way we would have gone up that season if we’d made the playoffs,

My three “Sliding Doors” moments would be…

    1. Losing Howard Wilkinson and replacing him with Fat Larry in 1983. Or was losing Raddy and signing McDonagh the biggest mistake?

    2. Buying Tony Agana and not Brian Deane in 1991

    3. Losing to Macclesfield on Boxing Day, 2018

And if I had to cite a non-Notts event, it would be the introduction of the Bosman ruling - which seemingly doomed us to several decades of journeymen trading places every few seasons.
