Now, a playoff final seems almost out of reach, and when I look at the fixture list and see Bromley or Altrincham or Boreham Wood away, I think 'I can't see us getting anything there.'

It's shocking. I sometimes have to remind myself that I watched us play Man Utd in the top division, and I'm still in my 30s (just).

I appreciate that the current owners have restored some stability and dignity to the club. They've also brought in some pretty decent players. But at this point, we need to see some progress on the pitch. We've never really challenged for the title in the last three seasons. This coming season, we have to be there or there about - or people will start to get pissed off.
Judging by some of the comments on the board over the past week, with supporters not having renewed season tickets yet, I'd say people are already pissed off.

No matter what happens elsewhere with budgets, we have to be serious title contenders this season from Week One - no more mess-ups at Eastleigh and Aldershot, no more gifting of points to Halifax, no more failures to turn up at Altrincham.

The message coming out of the club when the new head coach is appointed has got to be that anything less promotion this season equals failure.
